@@IllinoisCW Yeah that’s true. What I would do with the 90T is probably ending up replacing the bags and making sure the motor and it’s bearing are in good shape. But it sucks that the top brush and first mitter were removed. I’d say a Sunny’s top brush could work if one ever does gets installed. But I mean it’s a project car wash so hopefully all they do is refurbish the original equipment and do some modifications

Certainly a unique tunnel for sure. Gutted Hanna oscillating mitter, half functioning Sherman mitter and few chemical applicators. The stripper dryer sounds very nice though.
@britishcarfan96012 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. The Protovest Strippers sound good any day. Those dryers are very well worth keeping since they do a great job with drying the car and a lot more efficient rather than having like 8 blowers
@SFCarWashChannel2 жыл бұрын
Blowers like the ProtoVest FeatherTouch, 90N, and 90Xs are damage machines. If even 1 roller on the end of the bags gets stuck, it will cause a scratch down the entire length of the car. I won't deny they are efficient, but ProtoVest's touchless blowers eliminate that risk. I would take out any FeatherTouch/90N/90XS in any wash I ever acquire with one to eliminate the damage risk.
@britishcarfan96012 жыл бұрын
@@SFCarWashChannel Well I would personally keep them in. Since they are efficient with drying. All you have to do to prevent the bag from touching the car is adjusting the counter weights. My local car wash had a 1980s 90T Protovest and it barely even touched the car because the counter weight was set lower so the bag would go up a bit higher and just move when the car keeps going forward. But that’s your opinion I’m not trying to argue this is what I think so.
@MichiganCarWashes2 жыл бұрын
@@SFCarWashChannel Isn't there a model of the stripper that used ultrasonic sensors to contour the car? Sad to see even touchless contouring dryers being removed and replaced with a mountain of high HP dryers much further away from the car in both efficiency and performance viewpoints.
@SFCarWashChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@MichiganCarWashes You are thinking of the Untouchable series, later sold as the IP330, IP345, and IP730. The IP330 and IP345 both have 3 contouring top bags and stationary side bags with a 30HP main producer (the difference between them is that the IP345 has a second 15HP producer located on the passengers' side for the side blowers). The IP730 has the same 3 profiling top bags and 30HP producer as the IP330 and IP345, but with 4 profiling side bags built similarly to those found on the 90N and 90XS (which both have bags that touch the car).

Contrary to popular belief, it is actually safer to wash cars automatically than by hand. Equipment also allows an operator to significantly reduce their labor cost and improve throughput.

@@SFCarWashChannel i might have to argue with that one boss. Let me first say me and my family and i have came to this car wash for the last 20 years but after becoming a car detailer, i know the importance of proper maintenance and or buying of new products to safely washing the outside of a vehicle. Like I'll give you an example when I'm doing a hand car wash with a foam Cannon for the outside if I'm getting ready to scrub the vehicle gently and I drop my wash mitt I throw it in the garbage. Rocks and debris are a huge paint killer. The reason people pay more is because of people like me that have grid guards in my bucket, move with the paint up and down or side to side with the paint .. Machines can trap a lot of dirt in them and transfer it to the next car or truck. I now live in santa cruz by the way. Where the had car wash is $50. Regular machine about $38 . the people i see in the $50 hand wash lines are the car enthusiast. People that know a thing or 2. But thats just my opinion. My family and 1 had 20 years with you guys and the service was always great. 👍🏿👍🏿
@SFCarWashChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@aaronpomerantz7306 Modern car washes use closed-cell foam brush material that does not hold dirt, eliminating risk of damage, whereas a sponge or wash mitt holds dirt which gets rubbed on the surface, creating swirls. You'll also notice swirl marks tend to be in a circular motion whereas the contact pattern of brush material on the vehicle's surface is linear.
@danlc952 жыл бұрын
@@SFCarWashChannel - I've worked and owned car washes. I can tell you first-hand that the foam wash media is junk and doesn't release grit unless heavily rinsed. It also doesn't clean well. It has a difficult time even getting into shallow body lines. I will say they it's easier on thr car than cloth, but when a wheel well is dripping mud water, it's going to stick to the foam. Unless you're around to inspect the wash media, you'll never know. Cloth is the worst, because the grit gets imbedded into the texture. When I took over my wash I went in and saw everything dry. My Peco 118 rocker brush cloth was filled with sand. I was effectively wet sanding my customers cars. I The best and safest media was bristle, but it required more lubrication Tha operators wanted to provide. As a detailer, I wash with Optimun No Rinse. It safely encapsulates and emulsifies dirt and wraps it in organic polymers. None of my cars that I hand wash have any marring or the straight line scratches car wash brushes instill. Hopefully my new wash media, equipment designs, and wash chemicals will solve these issues with tunnel washing, or at least mitigate them to a new level. Quick story: The year that I bought my wash, I was able to take a trip through the nee Benalger SpinLite system at their test facilities in Novi, MI. I was with my gf in her truck that I had just polished to perfection, and applied a coat of a very durable polymer sealant (Duraoss 111). When I inspected the truck post wash it had swirls in the finish. Brand new system. The others that went through before me were also potential buyers with clean cars. I don't know why we continue to deny damage done by tunnel washes instead of fixing the issue. I'm going to attempt to fix the issue.

I got my first car wash job in 1996, just before I turned 20. One of the first things I did was see what the cloth felt like. It was gentle when I touched the spinning tips, but when you use the pressure the vehicle puts against brush, it's like a mass of hard cloth attacking!

Think the car in the video got a $40 value full service wash. Since I filmed this, they ripped out the remaining friction equipment, repainted the wash bay, redid the concrete, and installed a new Belanger conveyor. It is temporarily operating as a conveyorized hand wash, but they will be installing new friction equipment soon.
