I purchased this watch on the 11/11 sale. Took 2 weeks to arrive. Very beautiful piece high quality machining. 10 days later its running at 0 seconds fast/slow (pt5000 movement). How can this be possible?! Simply unbelievable. I hope it stands the test of time.

I ordered this blue version when the current sale started. I rewatched this video and noticed another upgrade to the bracelet. This version has a two post closure clasp feature. On the version I it had the single post .... basically the identical clasp as the SN004-G Vintage Diver.

Excellent review, John. I have tried on both the Tudor Black Bay 58 (on metal bracelet and fabric strap), and the larger Tudor Black Bay 41mm (on leather strap and metal bracelet). The larger Black Bay is very close to 15mm tall and felt too tall and top heavy. However, the BB58 is only 11.9mm tall and does not feel top heavy (the BB58 in steel is only 0.1 mm taller than this homage). I have a 6.75" wrist, and am strongly considering getting a BB58 as I think it is a stunning watch. Keep up the great work!

Beautiful!! Really is stunning!!!!!! Blue is very attractive and may just be my favorite color option onn this model. San Martin = Value like crazy with finishing you can expect to see on mid and even higher end watches. Comes with multiple movement options as well as some quartz even and some very interesting vintage and modern classics. It's almost like a Rolex of micro brands 500$ and less with Pagani Design being almost like a Tudor of the micro brand world, which is great imho and makes for a great alternative to the watches that have Neptune prices!!!! But without totally sacrificing all specs and result being very intriguing at this point plus what is nice about San Martin/ PD seems they are actually listening to constructive criticism and imho the product quality and price speak for themselves. They are literally good watches in there own right they may not be original but that's not the point and ATM I feel like these 2 companys pretty much reign supreme in there respective catagories.

You have got to stop man! I just bought the Tudor Bb homage this week and it hasn't arrived yet but you're making me want pick this one up too. The lug width, case design and yes to the female end links. I bought my first San Martin three years ago and I think it was an omega homage. At the time they only had maybe six watches to choose from. To this day I regret selling that watch. Alive owned numerous watches by this company and I swear they make me look at some of my Swiss watches with a side eye lol. Great review! And I'm so happy that San Martin is deciding to not cut corners. There is a market place for people that are willing to pay above $300 and maybe up to $500 if the quality is right! When it comes to homages they are true leaders.

I also think San Martin got a better colour match between the blue dial, and blue ceramic bezel. Ironically sometimes homage watches can look better than the original. This is one of the greatest San Martin watches. The only change I would make is to change the rivet link bracelet to the Oyster style bracelet used on the SN020-G. Regards, #WR4K

I caught a blooper at 6:12 . You referred to the movement as an NH35 when it is the 4hz PT5000. I have had this exact watch for several months. I have quite an extensive collection of no date divers, many much more expensive with leather straps that cost more than the San Martin BB58 homage. This watch is more accurate than my dear old Rolex and more legible (day/night) than any other watch I have handled. I was a pawn broker for many years. Great review John.

Thanks for this review. Well, what a fantastic looking watch! With watches like this from China, what's the point of shelling out hundreds more for a Swiss or Japanese piece? From your video, the quality looks incredible. I know it's a homage of a Tudor Black Bay, but doesn't bother me. It was only just towards the end of the review that I realised there was no date on the dial, and it looks better for it. In fact, this is the first watch without a date feature that I've ever considered buying. I really wish that i'd not seen this review, as I already have the Cadisen that you reviewed in my basket at Ali, and I've only just received the Tactical Frog Diver that you reviewed. Yeah both are nice!! I really like the BB36 and the 37mm 62mas is hard not to like and both are a great choice for small and mid sized wrists. If ya need something very durable with enough water resistance for everyday use that looks nice as well then the 62mas would do good but the BB36 is also durable and has enough water resistance and loom with very attractive looks imo and can be a everdayday watch but can also dress it up or down so imo with both being so versatile I would go with what fits more comfortable and what look you like better. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. Solid choice's!!! Myself I'd slide slightly to the BB36 first then the other. Also feel the SM vintage/modern 38,39 & 40mm Submariner and BB58 as well as the SM Explorer 1 and Ranger would also be worth looking if ya have not already. The SM BB36 or a 38/39mm Submariner just can't go wrong imho and are a solid option.

I think I want to get it in the Black Version with the gold hands and splash of red at the PIP and 200m. My thinking was I can wear it for work during the week and also on the weekends four play. Whereas the blue one almost seems like it's just good for the weekends for play. What are your thoughts to which one looks nicer the blue or the black. I always respect your opinion. Reviewers always say the watch should be a certain size in mm. Everyone has their preference and their own individual "sweet spot." There is no one correct size watch and most watch enthusiasts have many different size (proportioned) watches. No one has the exact same size watch of different brands. They have many different sized watches.

I think in fairness he is referring to himself when mentioning "sweet spot" and general collectors where circa 40mm seems to be by far the most popular size.I have a large wrist so anything under 42mm looks disproportionately small for me.

Thank you for watching. There are certain dimensions that work for all wrist sizes. 40mm case diameter, 48mm lug to lug, 20mm lug width. Hence so many of the brands using these sizes to fit the majority of collectors with a 6-7" wrist. Of course the perfect size is subjective, some collectors prefer the look of a 36mm, or 42mm piece on their wrist etc. However 40mm x 48mm fits all well. Regards, #WR4K

John, the watch I just ordered from AliExpress for the 266.00 apparently does not have the rivets. So they apparently did away with that for some of the watches. Did you like this blue tutor homage with or without the rivets on the bracelet 🤔 again I wanted to see your thoughts and opinion on that. Congratulations Ray. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Yes, this is the V2. The latest V3 version has an Oyster bracelet (no rivets), and a "San Martin hex" crown logo. The V2 uses an "S" crown logo. The first version on the Tudor Black Bay with an ETA movement used an Oyster braclet without rivets. Then when Tudor changed to in-house movements they also changed the bracelet to rivets. So the V3 looks more like the first ETA versions of the Black Bay. I prefer the cleaner look of the Oyster bracelet, more like a Submariner. I also prefer the hex crown logo to the "S" logo. The rivets links are difficult to resize as they have double-ended screws, so one needs to use 2 screwdrivers at the same time. Often collectors chew the screw heads are they are secured with threadlock (best to heat it up with a blowtorch first). With the V3 Oyster bracelet it uses normal screw pins which are easier to remove (although still better to heat up with a blowtorch before). a beautiful watch - like it very much, but never met a double sided screwed bracelet. No idea how to remove the screw without damaging. Seems like they're "welded" to me - may be they use Loctite to fix. All used San Martin BB saw second hand also had visible damaged screws at the bracelet. So far removed the bracelet at all wear it at a Nato. Did - resp. how did you manage to remove the screws without damaging ? - my PT5000 BB Homage works extremely smoth and acurate. Beside the stubborn screwed bracelet the only really negative thing is the crown stem - turned out to set the clock it is very fumbly and hard to screw back. This is definitely a big minus to this wonderful watch. Every cheap Seiko NH35 has a better working one.

I am still keen to purchase this watch (along with the SN004G V3 - check that one out, John) I'm of the opinion it is way better to buy direct from San Martin and pay a few bucks more than from Aliexpress, where the usual 'customer service' should anything go wrong is atrocious at best. The whole Ali 'raise-a-dispute process' is 'difficult' to say the least, I've had plenty of experience!!!! I'm expecting that SM direct customer service would be significantly better. Your thoughts?

I’ve ordered one. I must ask, you say that the PT 5000 is of equal quality to an ETA or Sellita movement. I’ve heard that Chinese movements are often assembled dry, with no lube to reduce friction and increase accuracy. Of course, this would seriously affect the longevity of the movement. What do you know of this claim? Is it true, or specious?

Thank you for watching. That does not make sense. Less lubricant increases friction, more lubricant reduces friction. Increasing friction does not increase accuracy. The accuracy is controlled by the regulation of the hairspring; hence regulating a movement in 6 positions to chronometer specification, is more accurate than regulating in 2 positions. Beware! I like the watch. The problem is that barely a month after I received it it started making a horrible noise every time I tried to wind it. Aliexpress does not allow returns after 15 days and the communication with the seller is unsatisfactory thereafter.

If you'd like 300m printed on the dial just write to them. I like San Martin quality, overall, myself, but I'm sure, being the cheap Chinese homage watch manufacturers that they are, they'll be more than happy to print whatever you want on the dial, as long as you will buy the watch. Ask them to print 'Chronometer' or 'Diver's 200m' on it and I'm sure they will oblige, as I think they offer a custom printing service. IOW: 200m, 300m, 'Ceronometer', or whatever a cheap Chinese manufacturer prints on a product means precisely fuck-all and if you were intelligent you would know that. I can't believe I just read some diddy writing 'I would prefer if it was 300m water resistant instead of 200m'. If you care about honest water resistance spec declarations, or even honest and conscientious testing and information reporting: put your money where your mouth is and go to the Swiss. The Longines Hydroconquest is a 300m dive watch and the Christopher Ward C60 Trident is rated at 600m. Or don't talk like you care and just buy Chinese. I'm not a watch snob. I own examples of both. Just know what you're dealing with. I'm sure I'll be hearing from you. Goodbye.

Thank you for watching. It's a shame Tudor didn't use a ceramic bezel on the Black Bay. Yes, aluminium does have a vintage aesthetic which works with the rivet bracelet. However ceramic is more scratch resistant and practical. It's ironic when a homage piece is better looking than the original it is based on. Regards, #WR4K

I just received my SN008-G yesterday, and I must say, I am supremely disappointed in this watch. San Martin did so much right about this watch; the design, the beautiful finish and the amazing lume to mention a few. BUT... (here come the deal breakers); #1- the bezel is so sharply milled that it feels like the sharp edge of a file... it will no doubt fray the cuffs of any long sleeve shirt. #2- There are other almost knife-sharp edges all over the watch, including the bottom of the lugs, and even the clasp lock release buttons. #3- the bottom of the case, while beautifully finished, is perhaps the sharpest edge I've ever felt on a watch case, and is noticeably uncomfortable on wrist when worn slightly tight. #4- The action of the crown is absolutely horrific. It grinds when unwinding as well as winding, and when trying to re-engage the crown tube it feels as if I'm going to dull the threads---in a word, it's atrocious.#5- the bracelet is a bit of a hair-puller, perhaps due to the 5 link design. Correct the crown problems and buff out all the sharp edges and I'll reconsider this one for sure. I was so looking forward to this watch, and was willing to overlook a few 'niggles', but combined, these are just too much to ignore... it's going back.

I'm certainly not knocking this review, but.....at first glance these look to be well worth a punt ( I was seriously contemplating buying one, along with some other SM watches), HOWEVER, there have been some recent reviews and owners of these watches (the BB Homage) with horrendous problems with crown stems on the PT5000 movements. The worst thing about this was San Martins appalling customer service. I've not dealt with them, so can't comment personally. Maybe they just had a shonky batch of movements, who knows? There are a ton of satisfied SM customers out there, no doubt. Just a wee word of caution.

Customers with problems like to make more of a ruckus than satisfied customers. I have recently had problems buying Seiko (mostly under 500 USD) models and gave San Martin a try due to the positive feedback. I am very impressed and easily blows away any similarly priced watch I have bought (Seiko or otherwise).

@@pumkinseed5172 Thank you for watching. Yes, this is something that many collectors are doing; switching from buying Seiko to San Martin. Seiko increased their prices, but did not improve their QC. The common issues of; bezel misalignment, chapter ring misalignment, pressed clasps, Hardlex rather than sapphire crystal; still persist. With San Martin the; value, specification, and QC; are often better at a similar price point. I have owned many Seiko watches; and stopped buying them due to the poor QC, and price increases. I also prefer the blue ceramic bezel to the blue aluminium bezel on the Black Bay 58 which I also reviewed.
