Sand Casting - Six Prong Ring - Video One

In this video I show how to setup a ring with six tall prongs so it can be sand cast. This method must be done correctly to work but once a person understands it the potential for sand casting more intricate rings is huge.
The second video will show how a vacuum table with a simple shop vacuum is used in place of vents. All tools and Red Clay available at my website www.diycastings.com.

Great video, thanks I watched a few times! Where can I find the metal pipe and half round you used as the holding piece for the ring? I am curious to get a set with different sizing to accommodate for all ring sizes.(or at least the popular ring sizes). Thanks!

Very good casting, congratulations. Can you tell what is the grain size of the sand you use to cast this ring? Is it available on your store?

Over 200 and maybe 220. I order about 9000 pounds a year from a foundry in Germany and then mix it to my own oil consistency here in Tucson. Similar to Delft Clay but a bit less oily in my opinion.

I use aluminum tubing and turn it to size on a lathe.

Did you mean powder? If so, I use mostly cornstarch but sometimes talc. I like cornstarch the best.
