This is Round 3 & 4.
This was last match of the first China vs Thailand where elbows were allowed (elbow pads were worn though). Liu Hailong was former Sandawang. The last round in this file is shown as five but I am sure there is a mistake because there is another round five still coming up. I believe the mistake is due to the ring girl carrying the wrong banner.

Muay Thai guy was 29 at the time, so he wasn’t old at all. I think Sanda is closer to real street fight. the takedown aspect of it. Can you imagine getting thrown in street fight on concrete and get kicked while on the ground?

The Muay Thai guy was fighting 10 kg above his usual weight (62-65 kg) and was 31 (had been retired for 3 years before coming back to fight Starbowsky and Hailong).

Keep in mind though there are many Sanda guys lost to Muay Thai too, so don't judge by one fight or just by this winner. If one fight determines everything then the whole world will just stop training anything else but Sanda. I do like Sanda too because it is not a fly chasing kung fu.

Yes, I know. I was just replying n disputing the original comment. I train muay thai but I respect all full contact arts n sports, whether its muay thai, sanshou, kyokushin, boxing, mma, bjj, greco-roman wrestling, judo, tkd, lethwei, etc. Cung Le is one of my favorite fighters. He's mma's most versatile kicker out there right now.

I don't know people are criticising the rules. I think it's clear that the rules are neither sanda or muay thai. The rules are a COMPROMISE of both sanda and muay thai which IIRC was formulated and agreed upon by both Chinese and Thai officials.

I think sanda is one of the funnest fighting styles to watch. I wish more fighters x trained in it instead of the cookie cutter muay thai and bjj. Moar MMA! Sanda would be a great combo to combine with a strong ground technique.

Why do people keep whining that this is unfair to the thai? The chinese has 5 seconds to throw during clinch, just like the thai has 5 seconds to knee. If the chinese could throw in time, I don't see why the thai couldn't knee in time. Look at 6:17. The chinese kneed the thai guy lightly. The thai guy definitely had ample time to knee. Also, the thai simply missed all his kicks cos sanda guy dodged well. Thai left himself wide open many times after launching a kick.

This fight was back 2002, and the Thai fighter was 29. And they were about the same weight, the Chinese fighter now is in his 40s too. Loot at here, ppl from Thai find too many excuses for Thai fighter. What else? the color of the shorts is too bright?

Interesting indeed...looks like the Chinese guy is tooling the Thai guy regardless of whether or not he's throwing him or not. I'm very interested in seeing the fights you mentioned though where the Chinese guys are only winning by throwing and Thai guys winning by KO or TKO. Is it very much like this fight? Where the Chinese guy is outstriking the Thai fighter and body slamming him out of the ring and on to the mat while "falling on top of him"?

You're right about Sanda being a sport and not a miartial art and the MT guy would be better on a street fight, but you seem to know nothing about kung fu. There are more than 300 martial arts in china and they're all called kung fu. So you may say(and you'd be wrong) that MT is more deadly than Hung Gar, but all martial arts are deadly, that's what they where made for.

Her background is Sanda and Shuai Jiao but eventually furthered her career by learning Brazilian Jiujitsu and Muay Thai. And that fight against Joanna went into a decision and Weili hasn't shown any dominance in that fight. She barely pulled it off. And btw, I was replying to an idiot who claimed one style is better than the other based on Liu Hailong beating Robert. It only proves Liu beat Robert, not the style. But since he wanted to use one fight to validate his statement, I decided to do the same thing to prove his stupidity.
