Just back from Sandals Barbados - I was a tad worried about wearing jeans etc but most people wore only dress shorts in all the restuarants - Made sense in the warm climate. Oh be patience as the service is not the same as other Sandals - Very laid back and be prepared to wait a long time in most cases.

Im leaving in 1 week for Barbados, I know the sandals app tends to be hit or miss but 14 days before arrival you're able to make 1 dinner reservation in advance so I booked Butches Chophouse already.. Everyone seems to say Butches Chophouse on the Barbados side is better than Butches Steaks and Seafood on the Royal side, glad I was able to pre-book!

Hi! Amazing review. Do you have to go to each restaurant to reserve or can they be made upfront with the concierge upon check in?
@ACoupleTravelers2 жыл бұрын
You do not have to go to each restaurant! If you are Butler level, the Butler can make all of your reservations. If you are Club level, you can call the concierge. If you are Luxury level, you can go to the reservations desk.

Thank you for the information! How fast do reservations book up? We are arriving on a Monday; will the restaurants be booked up for the week from the guests arriving that weekend?
@ACoupleTravelers3 жыл бұрын
You may have trouble booking something for the first night or so, but we’ve never had an issue getting a restaurant we wanted- May just be later in the week for the very popular places. But not all restaurants require reservations so there’s always plenty of options!!

What a great video, thank you! My fiancé and I are going here for our honeymoon in 5 weeks and can’t wait as been postponed for 14 months due to covid! We’ve never been to sandals before so don’t really know how the reservations work - how far in advance can you make reservations? Is it just when you arrive? Thanks x
@ACoupleTravelers3 жыл бұрын
Alicia- congrats on your wedding and have an amazing honeymoon!!! You can’t make dining reservations until you are on site! I always recommend on the first day that you make any reservations you want for the entire length of the trip. You can always cancel but it can be hard to get last minute reservations!

Mario’s at SGA is a different set up, you got the anti-pasti starters and pick your main dish whereas Portofino’s is fully a la carte, it’s not a like for like comparison

Can you eat & drink in all of these as part of the all inclusive, or do some restaurants have uplift charges for certain foods such as steak? And do you recommend tipping? Thanks :)
@ACoupleTravelers3 жыл бұрын
There are NO upcharges! Everything is included - even lobster and steak - and you can go to multiple restaurants in one evening. We've done the Sushi restaurant for an early dinner before going to another dinner later on in the evening. And no tipping allowed! It's already built into what you pay for the trip (unless you have a Butler, then you can tip them at the end of your stay)

Been multiple times. Been to Antigua as well and the food in Kimono’s isn’t great, it’s a gimicky sit down entertainment event. Butch’s and La Parisienne are the best, the French used to be what is now Spices on the old side, the chateauxbriand is really good so is the braised lamb, Portofino’s is excellent also. Soy is excellent, probs my favourite

Thanks for the video. Total different experience however. We found the food overall at both Barbados very underwhelming given the luxury grounds and money spent. Breakfast is virtually the same at every location which is bulk bought and very flat. Frozen pancakes warmed up, triangle shaped frozen hash browns, weird egg tastes as omelettes came out as strange dry shapes that were barely edible. Breakfast was not good anywhere. The Salty donuts were descent but the coffee is a glorified Keurig machine, not gourmet. Lunches in most places were the same with some variations. Overall, breakfast and lunches are just generic, bulk bought solutions with zero chef love put towards them. The dinners could be better but only at the reservation locations. Butches and Kimonos were probably the best in terms of freshness but they were really simple meat and vegetables. No gourmet or complex flavors if you're use to dining at a luxury level. The bars were mostly serving cheap rum with even cheaper syrup mixes like pina coladas and daiquiris, etc. Most of the time, you could not get a tailored drink with top shelf liquor because they didn't have it, or were out but they did improvise and make you something that was agreeable. Service was ok, but the majority of the staff are over worked, underpaid and over dressed (black, long sleeve and pants?)for 90+F weather and it shows. Yes, everyone gives you the conscripted hello when you pass but most of the staff are going through some very strained motions. A few gems (mostly bartenders) lit up some moments with folks and made the experience better. Entertainment was very mediocre too. Felt like second-rate or retired performers trying but falling very flat based on the money you are spending. The beach was ok but not nearly as clean and great as advertised, ugly jetties, seaweed and locals pushing pot every 100 ft tainted it a bit. All beaches are public so no control over riff raff. Florida's panhandle beaches are way nicer. The water was also unfortunately very murky and opaque, noting like the brochures. Granted the Sargassum has hammered all of the islands in recent years but some communication on this would be nice. The excursions away from the resort were awful. Cheap un-airconditioned buses (local taxis, not the nice airport shuttle) drowning in diesel fumes took us to dive sites and submarine trips that took over 90 min to reach. We picked up guests in 4 other locations, crowded as we rattled our teeth through the impoverished streets of Bridgetown, tiny terrible roads. The dives lasted only 40 min and it sucked away 5 hour chunks of the day as we had to do everything in reverse. Tip: stay at resort by the pool! In summary, the grounds and private/public pools are great, with a few reserved dinners. Everything else is sub-par, canned experiences where you are in a bubble with hundreds of other Americans eating flat food. Operations at these resorts is no where near the level of the grounds. We spent $9K for 6 days which is a lot for poolside and sugar drinks.
