Definitely the best bodybuilding youtube channel out there. Practical, concise, straight to the point, science, art, philosophy, all in one. A couple of months ago, I ordered my first sandbag inspired by your work. I asked for the 100 lbs one to start but got the 150 lbs instead! I was going to ask for an exchange but decided to challenge myself and give it a try. It was incredibly hard to lift it the first time, but after the first month, I could do the Bear Hug Carry for over 100 mts. I've noticed an incredible increase in my strength, and I've had to increase the weights I use at the gym because the bars and dumbbells I used before now feel light. The sandbag has become my absolute favorite! It's always challenging, it's tough, it's really fun, and it gives noticeable gains. Thank you so much for the progress you've brought to my training through sharing your experience and knowledge! I hope I can repay you somehow. Please never leave us without this beautiful channel!

Of course they're worth it, brother. It's a huge achievement for you to bring such a unique and original concept that stands out among the thousands of fitness channels out there today. It's exactly what many of us needed to take the next step. Tired of seeing the same thing on almost every channel, just with a different face, your channel was like an oasis. I think a lot of people are missing out on the opportunity to see your content, so I've done my little part by sharing your channel with my family and friends at the gym. By the way, thanks for your supportive words! They are very motivating, I really appreciate it. The sandbag looks so simple and straightforward on video, but facing it in real life is like trying to tame a wild beast! Thanks again, and hey! I'm really looking forward to the book! Best of luck with that too 🪨💪🏼😎

I got a 150 pound Cyclone bag from Rogue today and filled it with three fifty pound bags of sand. Man that is no joke. I tried it at first with 100 pounds of sand and thought, "Oh this isn't too bad. It's challenging, but not impossible." Then I dumped the last fifty pound bag in and holy krap. I did like two good walks with it, picked it up a few times and was done. My forearms, biceps, and lower back are toast, but in a good way. It was definitely a total body workout. I should have got the 100 pound bag, but thought it would have been too light. I might cut down on some of the sand and use some rubber mulch or something to lighten it. That bag sure did humble me. Mad respect to you and the work you can do with sandbags. It's no joke.

Ive been implementing sandbag training for a few years now and what I absolutely love is how it bulletproofs your lowerback. I'm in the military and while other people complain about their backs all the time, I'm always fresh after a ruck, training event, etc.

Chair force here. My job forces me to sit on my ass all day at an intel job. Turns backs into glass overtime. I've been doing rdls hyperextensions and stiff legged deadlifts to try to bulletproof but I'm noticing the functional bulletproofing simply isn't there with the standard barbell lifts. I'm gonna have to get into this sandbag thing.

Working as gardener is a good way to get bag training. We prefer to get a scoop of mulch, but need to get bagged sometimes and it can get soaked with water and become super heavy. Lots of functional training opportunities in gardening. Farmer's carry, wheel barrow, weeding can carry on shoulder, squatting to pull weeds, shoveling, lots of hand strength building. I tend to feel more loosened up and physically well at the end of a long hard day of gardening than at the beginning. I like thinking about the relationship between my microbiome and the macrobiome of the soil. Mulching soil and growing plants in it provides a long-term boost to soil fertility and microbial diversity, interacting with that ecosystem tunes mine up.

Hey man I'm a gardener too and this is exactly how I feel, I also view work as incidental training, like you say squatting to pull weeds, moving heavy stuff, etc. I also agree with the microbiome bit, we are so separated from nature and live extraordinarily clean lives. It's good to get a bit dirty. (Obviously I shower everyday and wash my hands, etc) I also love the mental aspect of it, seeing my work pay off, seeing the garden flourish, observing nature, the sound of the trees, etc. I also love just sticking my headphones in and just grinding away at a job. Nobody to bother me or tell me what to do.

Thanks for all your videos, because of you I really got into sandbag training. last summer I first started with a 75 kg (165 lbs) sandbag, but that one was actually too heavy for me to learn the basics - bought a 50 kg (110 lbs) to get into proper technique and since then working with the 75 kg one felt way better; I'm managing shoulder carries with that one, something I couldn't imagine doing when i started out. I even bought a 100 kg (220 lbs) last month, bearhug carries are doable after a proper warm up and after getting into the right mind set, but shouldering it is not quite possible That's another great thing about working out in general: always something to look forward to! :D Just like your book, cant wait!

This string bean is ready to go! Got set up with your sandbag hypertrophy video the past couple weeks. Going for every day now this past week because this sandbag training is leaving me restless on my rest days. I'm now alternating your sandbag schedule (with a few ending sprints after seeing you talk about them before) with push ups+abs+jog between and a long run on Sunday (Bioneer's influence on the running). Got myself a 50lb Home Depot bag of sand to start with. Ordered an actual sandbag that'll be here in a few weeks. Till then I do have some rather large logs to use when I'm ready for them. This string bean is shooting to be quite the bean stalk! You've resonated with me. I'm grabbing that book when its out, full price if I can. No rush on a job well done.

What a great tutorial! 👍💪 Also, I really like that you put time into checking the hardcopies of your book. Don't worry about the whole publishing process taking longer than expected! I believe most of your followers (or at least the hard core) are natural lifters like myself, and I also believe natural lifters don't tend to be particularly impatient. Rather, they are used to the fact that great results take time. If I had to contribute anything in terms of advice for beginners myself, it would be: Lift sandbags as often as you feel up to it, but once a week do one "round-up training". Flex all your muscles and check which ones don't feel significantly sore yet. This will vary from person to person depending on your style and specific techniques. Then train whichever muscles feel like they can do with some extra work and let all the others recover.

Hey awesome to hear you're planning on getting started with it! If you can get that 25kg down for some good volume and master the basic techniques I don't think 45kg should be too much! Great video as always. But one thing that always impresses me in your sandbag lifts is your bulging eyes! xD what an effort.. but that made me search about the effects of heavy lifting in eye pressure and I discovered that it may carry a significant risk of glaucoma and eyesight lost, and the known studies are about regular lifting.. I really think that sandbag lifting is a near perfect exercise, but as its the advantages mainly come from the generated pressure in the body I´m a bit concerned about the medium/long term consequences of chronically high vascular pressure it induces on the body... again I think that balance and body sensitivity is the key to equilibrium and health.

How would you suggest managing SI joint fatigue when adding sandbag work to my current bodybuilding program? I want those spinal erector gains but I'm concerned that with basically no eccentric phases the sandbag lifts ,though they're undeniably fun, take a lot from you while not giving you the best returns in hypertrophy.
@thestonecircle
@thestonecircle 19 күн бұрын
I see what you're saying exactly, but if you look at the spinal erectors they rarely do eccentrics anyway. Deadlifts are seen as one of the best spinal erector builders ever, but the erector muscles act as stabilizers rather than movers during the entire thing, lifting or lowering. My experience has been that they really add a lot of muscle, even though on paper it seems like they shouldn't

I think the cyclone or hussafel shapes would be really cool for carries and you might be able to carry them for longer. I've lifted a few stones shaped like that and always got a great workout. I like the versatility of the basic cylinder shape and I think they're probably better for shouldering, but for basic bear hug carries some of those others are probably good! Of the basic cylindrical sandbags I like Ironmind the most, because it's longer and isn't quite as wide, which I think makes it easier to lift, but rogue and cerberus are both great too

@@thestonecircle thanks for quick reply! I think I’ll start with cyclone at 100. Then hopefully work my way up w regular cylinder .. I’m glad I found your channel… I like the idea of building real strength instead of trying to just look good… I’m 59yrs old and want to keep/ increase my strength!

Anyone have recommendations for a first sandbag? So many seem to sell a bag with no sand...

It doesn’t make sense to sell them with sand because the shipping costs of something that heavy would be so much more expensive. Sand is easy to find at hardware stores. You can also use wood pellets which are lighter but take up more volume. I got a 50-125lb sandbag from a brand called Yes4All. I cut all the handles off and it’s been pretty robust a couple of months in.

Yeah play sand from the hardware store is the way to go! I've seen the yes4all one it's good to hear it's holding up. rogue cerberus and ironmind have all been great, but if you don't want to invest much money up front you can always buy a cheap canvas bag from a thrift store and line it with trash bags too!

I realise how ludicrous this question may sound but stick with it, I have a sandbag that can take upto 100kg of sand, currently filled with 55kg (or there about) I'm not a fan of the extra...sag (if that makes sense?) Any recommendations on a filling that will give weight and dimension to the bag to fill it out?

Wood pellets. A 50lb bag of wood pellets (like for a meat smoker) is around twice the size of a 50lb bag of sand.

Haha not ludicrous at all! They actually sell crumb rubber you can get for that exact purpose, I'm sure the wood pellet recommendation would work great as well. In the thumbnail picture for this video I actually brought that sandbag up to the mountains empty and filled it with soil so I could get pictures for the book, that worked really great too! Definitely takes up a lot more space than straight sand
