Do pike pushups from the edge of the bed if you don't have parallel bars for extra ROM on the stretched part. Behind the neck pike pushups are also an option. Also yes. Forearms are the base of all strength. No point in having a strong body if your hands are too weak to attach yourself to objects.

I'm going through what you described in your video about cali circuits (weightlifting burnout), something about doing 5x5 when you're 20kg heavier than you used to be (and it's not muscle) just doesn't work for me, so I'm going back to my roots and starting a program with basically 3 movements: the push up, the negative pull up (I'm too heavy to do more than one or two full range reps now) and the sandbag to shoulder, with the push up eventually evolving into the dip and the negative pull up eventually evolving into full range reps, as I get stronger and lighter.

Awesome stuff Cody :) the pause exercises like the lunge and the squat you do are so good to translate over into other sports. Idk if you’ve ever heard of John Brookfield but I recently bought some of his books for grip strength and did you know he invented battle ropes? Now that’s an exercise system that has escaped my mind for a long time. Have you ever tried them before? @duchaneaux7 ай бұрын
@@thestonecircle I think his most popular book is Mastery of Hand Strength. He's got an old youtube video called Blueprint for Grip Strength where he talks about the things he thought up for developing grip strength. I know he was kind of the OG grip guy back in the day. I think he was the second person to close the CoC#3 gripper, and he wrote some articles for Ironmind. He did some amazing feats like coiling up a 20 foot rod of steel that was like 3/4" thick I believe and got it small enough to fit inside a suitcase. He also was able to easily tear through 3 packs of cards at once. He's kind of similar to guys like Slim "The Hammerman" Farman where they did crazy feats of strength. He was big into work capacity and longevity which reminded me of the video you did where you talked about Steve Justa's factory story. But anyways, I found out he invented battle ropes, which I've seen many pro athletes use. I watched a video where he talked about he was asking God about what someone his age can do to maintain or increase his strength, and that's when he got the idea for rope training. First person I thought about was you because I felt like this would be right up your alley for training because you have unique ideas for training that I've never considered before that I'm now doing myself. Here's an article he did with DragonDoor. www.dragondoor.com/why_battling_ropes_original_creator_answers_all_questions_interview_with_john_brookfield/ I'm sold on this because of John himself but I'm curious how much it'll increase my work capacity and if anything else changes physically and mentally. I'm gonna use this alongside my sandbag training, pullups, and parallette work.

This really is a fun video to watch. But I love this type of list not only for that reason, but also, because imo it can contribute to making you a better bodybuilder, especially athletes with a longer training experience, by putting things into perspective: Of all the stuff you've inevitably tried out, if you're a half-way curious person, what did really have the greatest impact? We do have some overlap, btw, e.g. dips and pike push-ups. And since you asked specifically: For my upper back, it's anything bear hug, no matter if from the floor, from the lap, as a part of shouldering or as a walk. This really is the one part of odd object lifting I wish I had known as a teenager yet.
@thestonecircle7 ай бұрын
Hey glad you liked it! That's a really great point and I think you're 100% right, if most people really thought about that question I think they'd realize it's the big movements that did it! So happy that you like the bear hug stuff too, it's so effective and underrated!

I do a lot of these and agree that they kick ass. My favorite lat move is the Ring L-Sit pull up, preferably with a false grip, and it will fry the abs too. Pair it with ring dips for chest, with a hard RTO lockout, and that's an almost perfect upper body workout. For tris it's a single ring bodyweight extension with a gnarly overhead stretch. Don't have a biceps favorite. Upper back: sandbag to shoulder! Hams: RDLs. Glutes: kb swings. Quads: fuck all squats, I generally dislike them, but at least the skill component of pistols is a cool challenge---just got weighted pistols with my 24 kb kettlebell. And sprinting for calves. Shoulders: I legit feel the front delts the most with high rep deep push ups - rings, push up handles, doesn't matter. And I like ring facepulls for rear delts. Helped me fix my bad shoulder after I broke my clavicle. Honorable mentions: high rep kettlebell snatch is murder on the traps and rear delts. Love conventional deadlifts for the fun of loading it up.
@thestonecircle7 ай бұрын
Hell of a good list man!! I've been considering getting back into ring training lately, I'll just need to flip my pullup bar to the upright position to do it which means I'll lose the ability to do straight bar pullups (low ceilings) we'll see, they have been calling out a bit lately :)

@@thestonecircle taking time off from a variation to do another one is a good thing, you get newbie-gains-lite again for a spell and then again when you go back to what you fridged. @@thestonecircle it really is! Though, for emphasising the traps, your method with the sandbags seems so unqiue in the current fitness world (at least for me) and logical enough that I will try that in the future too for a few months. When we are at it, are 3 months sufficent to see mass increases? Also, I want to ask something more personal. Of course you dont need to answer. I am just curious why you started training? Is there a video about it that I can watch? Did you do it for strength?

@@weissbrot-rg9hd assuming you get stronger and eat in a surplus you should definitely see some changes!! Hey no worries at all, I haven't made an exact video on it but I originally started because I was at a point where I no longer played any sports or did anything physical, and I was so exhausted all the time I would just sleep 16 hours a day. It was really strange. I read that running could make you have more energy so I gave it a try and it worked! I had been into running for many years before that but never realized how effective it was until I stopped. From there I started doing basic calisthenics and the rest is history 🙂

Been doing a lot of stone carries. While it didn't gave me much for my bodybuilding goals it just made me fell unstopaple. There is nothing better than approaching new stone and calculating how to lift it. It's more logical sport than some people think, especially if You go in 1rm. My legs, lower back and self esteem grow significantly since then but I encountred some limitations with tjis training. I need sonething lighter with more adjustable weight, I will make my own custom sandbags with vatiety of weight. Never been able to press overhead or at least put stone on shoulder for simple reason. It would hurt as fuck and my stones are only for deadlifts and carries. Thanks for inspirstion, I feel like with this equipment these limitations will vanish and I will enjoy my workout with more freedom of movement. Also it will help me with my goal (120/130kg stone deadlift)

the only thing I will highly disagree with is banded neck exercises. Once I switched to using weight plates for my neck lifts, it got stronger and bigger at least 2x as fast. and I also believe bands dont allow stabilizing strength to accrue like with using plates and trying to keep them from swaying and swinging.

Yo, what is your opinion on completely replacing the barbell deadlift for sandbag lifts? Like instead of starting of my pull day with deads i would start it of with sandbag to shoulders/sandbag carries. According to you it should strengthen the posterior chain in a similar way and I always found deadlifts to be boring and exhausting. Of course I would do other hip hinges included like, good mornings and kettlebell hardswings.
@thestonecircle7 ай бұрын
Hey I did that exact thing and it's worked very well! Deadlifts are great but they don't give you anything you can't get with a sandbag too, I'd say if you think they're boring switching over to sandbags instead is a great idea!

Thanks man! A month ago I found kettlebells and now sandbags through your channel. So inspirational! Been doing somekind of shorts past 15 years (from ice climbing to gym training) and these really seem to be smtin else! Hopefully the way to real farmer strength! My DL is nowdays only around 200 lbs/180kg, but I can do 15 reps with 140-150kg. Bodyweight aroun 90kgs. Any suggestion about bag weights I should use? How did you start and how heavy bags you have, atleast they look huge?
@thestonecircle6 ай бұрын
Hey I think you're really gonna love the sandbags, definitely builds that farmer strength! If you can rep out sets of 15 with 150kg I think a 70kg sandbag will be a great place to start. It will feel way heavier than it has any right to at first haha, but you should be able to move up from there after a couple months. Slowly worked my way up, currently my best is 250lbs to shoulder at 160lbs bw, and I got pretty close to 275 to shoulder. I recently went on a bit of a cut so my strength is a little lower right now, but I hope to shoulder 300 by the end of the year!

Awesome dude. But as an all round lifter I have to ask why you choose to not include the pull up? And what your thoughts are for choosing dips as your chest exercise rather then using it just like the carry and include it as a compound exercise. Love to hear your thoughts
@thestonecircle7 ай бұрын
Hey thank you! Pullups are awesome and I do so many of them, but on a list of my favorites I guess I just don't get as excited about them as I do about the bear hug carry :) i do love pullups though! For the dips I chose to focus mainly on the chest, even though they do hit other things because there are other exercises I like more for the other pressing muscles (pikes for shoulders and pushups for tris) but for the muscles I included with the bear hug carry there aren't any other movements I like more for any of them

@thestonecircle6 ай бұрын
Hey that's really awesome you're getting into it too!! You can definitely improve the breathing to make things easier, but it does always kinda feel like that sadly haha. You get used to it and get really good at fighting it off though! My main advice is to take a huge breath when the sandbag is on your lap and hold it as you stand up. From there imagine your chest and stomach are made of steel and unyielding. Take quick breaths imagining each one goes down all the way to your waist, maintaining that solid brace. It takes some work but with some practice it becomes second nature pretty quick!

I gotta ask how do you remain upright in a box squat. I find myself shifting forwards and doing a squat-morning, might be due to my weak quads or my shifty sandbag
@thestonecircle7 ай бұрын
I like to use that as kind of a mechanical dropset. I try to remain as upright as I can for the first few reps but eventually some extra squat morning action is inevitable. Puts more tension on the posterior chain for sure but I still feel it's a pretty good stimulus for the quads :)

Do you just use sand for fill material or do you have some rubber then sand in the sandbag? Also are all your sandbags from Rogue? Thanks

Just straight play sand, but I've heard the rubber can be a good way to go too if you want to start with a bigger sandbag and work up to it over time! Do you grip the sandbag a little lower than the middle when you lift a vertically placed sandbag? I usually start with my sandbag horizontal, but would be interested in learning to pick it up when its vertical so that I can do those bear hugs more without having to shoulder it first.
@thestonecircle6 ай бұрын
There are two different methods I like to use! First is to grab near the middle of the sandbag and use power to toss it up and catch it on the upper chest, the other is to grab low down and stand straight up. I like the power version more because I'm better at it, but I add the other variation a lot because I can get a lot out of a lighter weight that way
