What compressor are you running this off please? My current compressor is SGS 50ltr one.

Hi Andrew, great question! We're currently running a 150L compressor: ( ebay.us/JW0n9m ) We've found that sand blasting uses a remarkable amount of air, so even with a 150L tank the compressor is almost constantly running. You can certainly blast with a smaller compressor like your 50L, but you need to be patient and pause regularly allowing it to get back up to pressure. Needless to say, with all the things we do with a compressor, we have no regrets splashing out on the 150L. Couldn't go back now. Hope that helps! :)

Great well explained and demonstrated video. I got one from SGS which looks pretty much identical. Do you know where is the best place to get the window films from for that size. Also have you carried out any mods or upgrades to improve the over all use. Great content.

I've seen some people use a steel mesh instead of a plastic film to stop the screen getting scratched. I am thinking of trying it. It has worked out really well, I would actually like to get another and try to modify it so that it can be used as a vapour blaster.

Hello. Nice video mate. Do you get any dust outside while blasting ? i want to keep in my home garage. Thank you
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 3 ай бұрын
We bought a dust extractor, like this one ebay.us/hHkqG9 , which we connect to the outlet pipe. There will always be some dust leakage from the cabinet, which is worse without an extractor. They are not too expensive.

Great video mate, interesting that you 'upgraded' from the smaller one, I have just purchased the smaller one, any tips on using it?
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
I used my smaller cabinet a lot, but I do find it much easier with the larger one. Make sure you replace the screen protector frequently, it is surprising how quickly it fogs up and you can't see what you are doing. If you can sort out some extraction, maybe using a vacuum cleaner, it will really help to be able to see what you are doing. Also make sure your compressor can give you enough air, you quickly get fed up if it takes time to recharge. I hope this helps. Good luck with your projects.

Hi, I'm about to embark on sandblasting, can you explain how the media hose collects the media to firethrough the gun, I couldnt see where the other end of the media hose went.Many thanks
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
The media gun has a hose coming out of the bottom that links to a metal tube that goes down into the triangular catch area at the bottom of the unit. When you press the trigger and air is going through the gun it sucks the media up and through the gun. It works much better than you would think. If you don't have enough media in the bottom of the cabinet or if when it is sucking it forms a void around the end of the pipe the media stops coming through and you either have to top it up, or give it a stir. I hope my garbled expanation helps.

Cheers for this upload, I want to buy one for my bike and car parts, I will have to upgrade my compressor as it only sticks out 6/7 cfm with a 50ltr tank, other than media, do I need anything else for basic operations like the above. How do I clean the media or will see when it starts to degrade. Thanks in advance Stu
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Жыл бұрын
You can proababley start by using your existing compressor if you are happy to work with 1 minute blasting then a couple of minutes refilling! It's painful but it can be done. TBH we haven't seen the media (irons silicate) really degrade. We have changed it when we have done 5 - 10 hour blasting because it must be full of the paint and rust we have blasted off. But you can hardly tell, and the media is quite cheap. We used this ebay.us/jhoFNw The main thing that we found was a good upgrade was getting an extractor like this one ebay.us/fkS3eE The pressure inside the cabinet pushes a lot of dust out if you don't use one. You will be pleased with the results, we were!

Cheers! They're great cabinets I'm sure you will be pleased with it. I think a 17in wheel might be a bit of a squeeze depending on the wheel's width. But if you remove the mesh floor from within the cabinet, I reckon its possible! Hope it works out for you mate

Cheers mate, depends on the wheel size. I think a 17in wheel might be a bit of a squeeze. But if you remove the mesh floor from within the cabinet, I reckon it's possible. Smaller wheels would probably be fine, it'll be a bit awkward but definitely doable.

I wonder would this remove chrome off my aluminium snare drum?
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Terry, it definitely would do! But I think it would probably be way too aggressive with this media for what you're describing and ruin it. Although you can get much softer media which gives a much finer finish that might work. Alternatively look up vapor blasting, a lot of people swear by that when its Aluminium. Hope that helps. :)

HI, which air compressor do you use? Does it have to be a big powerful one? Thanks
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, we use a big 150L compressor like this one: ebay.us/xPZsMU When you're sand blasting, it uses a considerable amount of air so you're definitely better off with a big one if you want to be working continuously. If you have a small one, you find that you have to keep waiting for it to recharge which can be frustrating. You still end up getting the job done though! Hope that helps

@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
If you're buying a new cabinet like the one in this vid then it will likely come with all the bits and pieces you need. Other than that, a compressor and media (I'd recommend iron silicate) and you're away. Check out the video description for links to my recommendations. Hope that helps!

Is there any way to alter the air pressure coming through the gun itself. My work place has just brought one today, but there doesn't seem to be much power behind it. Its currently got glass bead in it.
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 жыл бұрын
We run ours from a 250l compressor that gives a max of 10bar. To be honest we don't turn the pressure down, it seems to settle to around 6bar on the output dial when we are using it. The pressure at the gun hasn't been a problem, and the compressor keeps up with it in use. We are using Iron Silicate media. We had to keep stopping when we had a smaller compressor. I am not sure if this will help but good luck in solving it.

Hi Ian, this one seems absolutely spot on for our needs so far, it'd be nice for it to be a bit bigger still. But they jump up in price as you get into more commercial territory then. It's holding up very well, especially for a "cheap" one, even living in the garage. I could definitely recommend it. This is the exact one in the vid of that helps: ebay.us/vcr3kY Cheers!

To be honest, I havent changed the media in this cabinet yet, and we've probably blasted for around 15 hours in it. If you thoroughly degrease and clean anything you want to blast in there beforehand, then the media can last a surprisingly long time. Hope that helps!
