Sandblasting a Wooden Chair: Brief Guide
Materials Needed:
Sandblaster
Air compressor
Blasting media (e.g., crushed walnut shells or baking soda)
Protective gear (goggles, gloves, dust mask or respirator, protective clothing)
Drop cloth or tarp
Painter's tape and plastic sheeting
Steps:
Preparation:
✅Safety Gear: Wear safety goggles, gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and protective clothing.
Workspace: Work in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Lay down a drop cloth or tarp to catch debris.
Masking: Use painter's tape and plastic sheeting to cover areas you don’t want to sandblast.
Setup:
✅Blasting Media: Fill the sandblaster with a gentle media like crushed walnut shells or baking soda.
Air Compressor: Connect the sandblaster to an air compressor with sufficient power.
Sandblasting:
✅Testing: Test the sandblaster on a scrap piece of wood to adjust pressure and distance.
✅Blasting: Hold the nozzle 6-12 inches away from the chair. Use smooth, sweeping motions to strip the finish evenly. Avoid staying in one spot to prevent gouging the wood.
Post-Blasting:
✅Cleaning: Use a soft brush or cloth to remove any remaining blasting media and dust from the chair.
