Sandboxed Apps? (Linux+ Objective 1.6.2)

Flatpaks and Snaps are all the rage when it comes to installing applications on Linux distributions. My preferred "all-in-one" app is the AppImage, but honestly they seem to be more frustrating than revolutionary.
This video covers how to use sandboxed apps, and the nuances between the different platforms. They are supposed to make life easier for developers, but it seems to me they just add MORE work by adding new "standards" to the application delivery world.
But I'm just an old grump.

In the immutable OS versions of Fedora and Opensuse (Silverblue/Kinoite and Micro OS) flatpaks are the way to install programs in the non immutable home directory. You can hardly avoid them there. However, Fedora provides a tool called "toolbox" that allows you to run a podman container of Fedora inside the home directory. Inside toolbox programs can be installed in the traditional way with dnf. Maybe not very convenient but usable.

I'm testing migrating from Fedora Workstation to Silverblue because I've had enough of Linux package management. My only complaint so far is that Firefox is pre-installed as a system program; I hate Firefox and removing it is usually the first thing I do on a fresh install. It feels kind of Windows/Mac that you have to figure out how to remove it. I did get rid of it, it's not hard, it's just not obvious. Otherwise, I prefer the reboot/update to the usual "update, update, update...."

@@Mythologos With rpm-ostree you may create your own customized image (at least on Silverblue/Kinoite). So you may add Chromium or whatever you like.
