Most people don't know why things are funny. This guy is one of them. I know why things are funny: it's an instinct that has many purposes. Imagine a group of monkeys that have to eat bananas. One of them is lazy, and instead of climbing the tree, he eats one in the floor. But that fruit was on the floor because it had rotted. So the lazy monkey eats it and makes a disgusted face. The other monkeys look at him and laugh. So comedy is about noticing stupidity. Many people don't like to be the butt of the joke, because being means you were stupid. If instead of a rotten banana, the lazy monkey grabbed a snake that bit him and killed him, the monkeys that were his friends wouldn't laugh, even though he did something stupid. That's because the sadness to see him in pain/dead is greater than the pleasure of feeling smarter than him. Since humor separates the smart from the dumb, the laugher from the laughed at, it is one of the things that made people select their sexual partners. Choosing someone who is often the butt of a joke, or someone that doesn't get the jokes or get them too late, is choosing someone stupid, and will pass those genes to their children. And dumber people have a smaller chance of surviving. So "having a good sense of humor" means being intelligent, and thus is sexy.
