Great video! What I do involves a step more. I drill the blank using a smaller drill bit and use a boring bar to get to the size of the hole needed. That gives a much smoother inside texture, then I sand the inside of the pen to shine it up. Sanding takes a lot less time this way though

Great video. I’ve been doing the same thing. Where I come from (Singapore) Zona paper isn’t available. Only thru Amazon and it takes a while to get here. So it’s very precious to me, I would usually add a few drops of water inside the barrel and sand it wet. That way it won’t load the paper and I can reuse it many times over. It’s an amazing product! And the pen is just gorgeous!

Great! I just started my bespoke journey! One suggestion I would make is to polish the inside before cutting those interior threads so you don't need to worry about them.

You might want to use Novus plastic polish as a final step. It is a three stage system, 1 is for larger scratches, 2 is for fine scratches,and 3 is a cleaner. It is designed to polish plastic wind screens like on jets or motorcycle helmets. BTW, great looking pen.

I use that too with Zona but if I polish all the way to the white Zona paper, I would not use Novus 1. I’d go straight to no2 as I find 1 quite rough.

Whippet....whippet good lol.....IF you mount the wooden dowel in an electric drill the centrifugal force forces the abrasive strip to the outside, I usually put the strip at the end rather than center

Thank you Huw, I didn’t use them wet on the inside of the pen because I thought the slurry would be tougher to remove than dry dust. Noe sure if that is true it not but in my mind that was the rationale. Regards, Bob

Suggestion...take that snipped off section of paper and insert it back into the roll on dowel. It will keep the roll diameter more consistent and give you more surface contact. I usually start my rolling of the paper from an end rather than the middle which leaves you with more wraps to stuff the cutoffs into. Great looking finish you achieved.

You could use DNA, I just used a damp towel to remove the dust so I don’t grind it back into the blank with the lesser grits. Regards, Bob
