With hardwoods after using acetone to wipe off the stripper residue I use 150 grit sandpaper and on softer woods are use 220 grit paper in my shop

Hi. New here. I was wondering if you have any tips for getting mold out of furniture. A friend contacted me today about some end tables she bought, and when she got them they were covered in mold. She's asking me for help...so I'm asking you for help 😊 Love your set up. The first video of this project was quite fascinating to watch. Thank you

Since there are a lot of Sanders I haven't used, I'm not really in a position to answer that question for you.

I'm having an issue with little swirls in the wood. I'm sanding with the drain. I have a regular square dealt sander I use sheets on and I have an orbital sander. Get the same results. What am I doing wrong?

Soft woods are more prone to swirls than hardwood, just something to keep in mind. Use the orbital with a finer grit, or finish up sanding by hand. It could also be the type of abrasive you are using. Stay away from aluminum oxide sandpaper.

Why is aluminum oxide sandpaper bad? Which type would you recommend? Thank you very much

I'm curious about the stripping bath. What effect does this have on the glued joints? The glue is old as it is. Won't this process dry it out even more?
@FurnitureRefinishingStudio4 жыл бұрын
Good question and I think it's a very common misconception. The short answer is no. I have refinished over 10,000 pieces of furniture and have not seen even one instance where glue was damaged by either hand stripping or a flow tank with lacquer thinner rinse. The stripper just isn't on the piece long enough and evaporates too fast. I'm no chemist, but It also doesn't seem break down glue like it does finish. The story's of failed glue joints from strippers stem from people that used dip tanks or hot tanks to strip furniture, when those systems were really meant to be used on architectural woodwork and doors.

With you sanding all the surface area completely down to bare wood you’re removing a lot of the patina that the furniture had originally.

That was the goal in this project. The chest went through a total color transformation.
