Refinishing an antique chest of drawers. The back plate for the handles is solid brass but it has some type of coating on it I am able to get parts of it down to a real shiny brass but other parts the finish is not coming off. Will this method work for that?

Geez thanks. I’m refinishing an old desk that a neighbor put out for trash. The hardware is all brass. I used your method. Then I took a magic eraser with just a tiny dab of baking soda which helped remove the black residue. Pat dry. Voila!!! It only took a few minutes. They’re really beautiful. Thanks so much

Another trick that worked for me is using a hairdryer and tissue. Aim the hairdryer on warm at the stain and keep it rotating. With your other hand keep rubbing the stain with the tissue. The hairdryer should be on your hands and not directly on the stain (only in some intervals)

Oh wow! This worked so well on my brass door knocker!! And was so easy! I had tried using Brasso and all sorts of cleaners but none of them did a thing. Thank you so much! My door knocker looks like new!

Besides the cleaning part, my useful take away from this video was the magnet test. Next time I visit a hardware store to purchase brass items for my doors, windows, etc - I’ll use this test to be sure what I buy is pure brass. Thank you 🙏

Do you have to strip the furniture before using the discs? If so, how do you do that on highly carved furniture? Thank you.

Has anyone tried these discs? I found them on Amazon but the reviews were dismal. I have a cabinet with very detailed carvings on the doors and drawer fronts that I would love to use this technique on. Thank you.

Thank you! I just scored an awesome Amish corner curio with the same and I want to put simple pine cone/bear knobs on it but after unscrewing the knob realized it's affixed by tiny nails and I wasn't sure of a good way to do this. I won't attempt it until the knobs come in, but thank you for showing! I did notice some scratching under the plate- was that from the chisel? Or did they affix the plate to hide that scratch originally.... I have unfinished stained wood that I can't scratch because I will not be sanding it. Thank you!

I have a circe stain on the top of the wood case of an 80 yr old antique radio. Probably try the iron method as I must maintain the original look of crackled and worn finish of the redt of the pirce. The thinner etc method is good for making things look like new as it sort of disolves and redistributes the finish 11:14 in

I cleaned the brass hardware on my mother newly purchased antique chest of drawers. I watched a few videos and this worked like magic! Got all those nooks and crannies with very little effort. Fished it off with w/ dawn power cleaner and a sponge to remove the oily residue from the tarnish. I did 14 in 45 minutes. Impressive!

What do you do when the screws AREN’T in the back and the handle prevents you from twisting the screws which appear to be in the front? Trying to keep from removing the very front piece of my dresser drawer front that appears to be nailed to the drawer frame. Never mind, seeing others asked 7 years ago with no answer.

Thanks for vdo. I am wondering if you can give me some advise. We have weather front door with a lot of sun weathered so part that not protect by storm door were dried. We used sunsheild from Howard and it does look better. However, we can’t bring the shine back like the other part where we polyurethane in the past. So any recommendation for product to use on top of sunsheild wax?
