I turn my shrink in on itself an inch before sliding on to the blank, when heated it gives a perfect finish without the need for cutting. I also use shrink to pack out the reel seat, rather than electritons tape. your complety right about that type of century reel seat, the Abu looks the dogs. great video.

Did the same thing myself when replacing shrink tube on one of my rods. Leaves a nice professional looking end then doesnt it. With the other end, due to using extensions with my rods, i took the original butt cap and cut a hole through the middle of it just big enough to fit the spigot of the extension through then glued it over the shrink tube with a couple of small spots of araldite, sticking past the end of the blank by a mm or 2. That way, dont have to keep putting on and off eventually spoiling the shrink tube at the bottom when packing it away, and the butt end of the rod is still protected from any knocks or scrapes that might otherwise damage the carbon blank.

30mm...Is it an older rod Pete. Rods these days seem to be around the 28mm mark meaning the heaving ground rods if you like. Anyway mate try Rutherfords angling as I know that Andy keeps a variety of shrink tubes in stock and he also does mail order mate..

So it seems like that 2 inches of over hang was just a waste of shrink tubing. Perhaps a half an inch is enough?

The only place that I know of to purchase the foam caps is at Century direct at there factory in Washington mate

should start the heat and shrink the tube from the center then work your way to each end to avoid air being trapped in a bubble.

I see your point but to be honest, mate ive put shrink tube on 1 or 2 rods over the years and never had a problem at all with air bubbles....

Them foam end in cap things stop the sand from getting under the reel seat ass well
