The music was great, that’s for sure. But let’s not get carried away with the rose tinted glasses! Women had very few rights, no seat belts were worn in cars , African Americans were treated poorly, smoking was not considered a health risk, etc., etc., etc., let’s be thankful for what we have now. Sure they made a cute couple, but they ended up in divorce.

This has to be one of the sweetest video tributes I've ever seen. You captured most of all the precious moments that made Bobby and Sandush (his pet name for her) the Hollywood Golden Couple. They were the Brangelina of their time---but more breathtaking. And though they had their ups and downs, they NEVER stopped loving one another; Bobby's last phone call was to Sandra, and Sandra never could bring her heart to replace Bobby. And there was no denying that they completely adored their son Dodd. We should all be so lucky to sing about a "dream lover" and then have it materialize. May Bobby and Sandra rest in peace.

Unfortunately that barometer started a lot of young women down an impossible road. Sandra said in her autobiography that she suffered from anorexia all her life because she had a round face and any time she gained a pound it made her face look fat. You can see the struggle here. Look at her arms at 2.01 and then a few frames later her arms are normal but she has a double chin. What a shame she had to diet all her life to maintain a Hollywood ideal.
@monmothma3358

It may have seemed innocent and simple, but that was an illusion. Sandra struggled so much, and if it's true as she claimed, that she was sexually abused by her stepfather, that's often how it goes. People often never get over something like that and it especially affects body image. Lifelong suffering. Not very innocent.

Love it! I still get big ole goosebumps when I hear this song. Why? Ask Paula Estlick, 6th Grade, Naranca Elementary, 1963. Thanks for playing this song. Peace. (DCH, Jun 2, 2021)

I fell in love with Sandra Dee after seeing the movie "A Summer Place". I tell my wife of 50 yrs about how she looked so much like Sandra, (Alexandra). My wife is still a beautiful Lady, and I love her very much. I was saddened by how Sandra's life ended. Still love listening to these songs from the 50's, I wonder how many songs that are hits today, will be listened 60 yrs from now. We were blessed to live in such wonderful times.
