Emma Goldman was born 152 years ago on the 27th of June, 1869, and died at the age of 70 on the 14th of May, 1940. She had dedicated her life to promoting the causes of Anarchism and Feminism, and bravely opposing oppression of minorities, capitalism, militarism and the state. Rest in peace, Miss Goldman.

Soviet Russia is falsely considered a communist regime. Communism is the goal both anarcho-communists and supporters of marxism-leninism want to reach using different means. One of the main differences between anarchists and marxists is how to reach communism. What I am trying to make clear is the actual meaning of communism, whether leninism or marxism works or not is a much more complicated issue than just saying Soviet Union turned to a totalitarian regime and collapsed.

You are completely right in your definition of communism... but, see how it turned out to be... Russia, China... eventually, it was not a dictatorship of the wealthy, but a dictatorship of the members of the PARTY, the only one authorised in these countries. Anarchism, the one Emma Goldmann believed in, is something quite different. It is much closer to Gandhi than it is to Lenin.

... "Patriotism, sir, is the last resort of scoundrels," said Dr. Samuel Johnson. Leo Tolstoy, the greatest anti-patriot of our time, defines patriotism as the principle that will justify the training of wholesale murderers; a trade that requires better equipment in the exercise of man-killing than the making of such necessities as shoes, clothing, and houses; a trade that guarantees better returns and greater glory than that of the honest workingman. ...

@hint0122 You didn't answer my question. And, for your information, Emma Goldman (the subject of this video) was an anarchist. Anarchists are freedom's true expositors. As a true expositor of freeedom, the American government does what it always does when confronted with such a vital human being: They banished her. Goldman wound up in Russia just a few years after the revolution and she found Lenin had imprisoned 1000s of Russian anarchists. So you do not have a leg to stand on with me.

For something to be defamatory it must be untrue, not just unflattering. I notice from my travels that the countries most 'patriotic' tend to be the ones that have to do the most mental gymnastics to explain all their overseas killing. I'm well aware of the evils of my governments past and present, and it helps me to push for change. Denial is not constructive.

Emma Goldman was, as most (or at least a great deal of) anarchists are, an anarcho-communist. Communism is not devotation to the state, but Marx and Engels thought a "dictatorship of the proletariat" necessary to reach pure communism, which is stateless. Anarcho-communists, on the other hand, do not believe that a totalitarian state is needed to reach a state-less socialism. Anarcho-communism wants a society free from hierarchy, and where people only work when needed (and for that it is needed).
@Pervyable

@razamataz45 Can you seriously not see a difference between not supporting mass slaughter, and supporting targeted violence against people who you see as opressors? I don't agree with Goldmans views on the subject myself but it doesn't take much to see that theres a wide expanse of difference between the two. Unless of course one is trying to use cheap rhetorcial shots to make a point instead of making criticisms of actual substance.

@razamataz45 "Denouncing violence and then resorting to it when it achieves your ends is hypocrisy of the highest order." You should tell that to the American government, whom -- we are endlessly told -- go around the world spreading peace and democracy. Goldman was not a fraud. The true frauds are capitalist governments whose pronouncements are composed of complete falsehoods and outright lies. @hint0122 "here is a better question. name any Anarchism movement that worked" Why? "anarchists can and have do just as much damage as any goverment. look at Somalia." You confuse anarchy with lawlessness. In an anarchic society, there would still be laws and social institutions. What an anarchic society would lack, is a coercive governemnt, or "State". There are many, many different forms of anarchy. In contemporary terms, anarchy means "stateless". You need to do some research.

I never said I was from any native American tribe, nor did I claim America was my ancestral home. It is, as I stated, my country of birth and has been so with my family for the last 5 generations and it is my homeland because it is the country in which I was born, raised, claim citizenship in and swear allegiance and devotion to. Before you respond to an old comment in an attempt to be condescending or avant-garde you should take a closer study of what you're responding to.

@hint0122 The peace activists were misguided, in fact your uncle was a hero because he served his country honorably for a cause he deemed noble. It still doesn't excuse the actions which were committed in a false pretense, but in his moral view military duty was justified. My grandpa was in ww2, my step dad in Somalia, I never look upon them with disgrace. Rather, I scoff at the governments which allow young men to fight and die for causes that will ultimately benefit the least among us.

@TheKenTerry Before Europeans restored order in Africa it was a continent with hundreds of small tribes and kingdoms. Brutal ones like the Zulu kingdom under Shaka. South America? the Aztecs who at their most important sort of "holidays" would sacrifice around 70,000 people, each getting their hearts rip out of their bodies. Middle East? even today brutal violence fueled by religious fanaticism back then and today.
