In todays video I show you how I make pinto beans in the Instant Pot. From where I come from we always called them soup beans.
I hope you enjoy this video.
Recipe:
Instant Pot Pinto Beans
Ingredients:
3 cups beans (pinto & white northern beans)
Piece of Pork (example: pork chop, bacon, ham hock, etc)
3 quarts of water
2-3 Tb Salt
Directions:
1. Wash and rinse beans to remove dirt and grime.
2. Drain.
3. Sprinkle salt over beans and allow to rest for about 10 minutes.
4. Dump beans into the Instant Pot.
5. Add 3 quarts of water to pot.
6. Add pork to the pot.
7. Place lid on Instant Pot and make sure that pressure knob is in the sealed position.
8. Click on the Manual button and set the timer for 45 minutes.
9. When time is up click on the Cancel button and do a quick pressure release.
10. Remove lid and stir beans.
11. Add 2 cups of water to beans.
12. Click on the Sauté button and allow the beans to cook down. (approximately 25 minutes)
13. Click on the Cancel button.
14. Serve
Note: These beans are better on the second day so they make great leftovers.

Don't pay any attention to the negative comments. I live in Kentucky where we are taught manners. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. This was a lovely video and you did great. I was raised on "soup beans" and corn bread. I have never seen the great northern and pintos combined. How cool. Of course I can mix them myself. I will try this. Please keep making videos and ignore the rude people. It's your kitchen and you can do what you want. I think you are great!

I love beans . My grandmother grew up in West Virginia. She made an awesome cornbread and beans . If she were here today she would be amazed at how quickly she could make a pot of beans. I would go to her house and smell the beans cooking in her crock pot and I would get excited. I would take long walks with my grandmother picking berries while she would sing songs to me . She grew up during the Great Depression . She once told me she got just a single present for Christmas one time . A Hershey’s candy bar. She was so exited telling me the story and how she and a friend shared it . I miss my grandmother everyday. I’d give anything to sit and eat a bowl of her beans with her and some of that beautifully browned cornbread. Thanks for sharing how to make your beans with us.

I love my Instant Pot. In fact, I have a pot of soup beans on now. It's funny, I soaked my beans overnight for the first time, but I have no problem with doing the dry bean method. I always enjoy watching how others use their Instant Pot. I watch KZbin every day and I really appreciate people sharing their recipes and the way they do things. By the way, I live in Southern Indiana. I'm only 15-20 miles from Louisville, Kentucky. Thanks for your video.

I think people get really brave and judgmental behind a keyboard. If they’re searching for recipes then they clearly don’t know everything. Ignore them. You do a GREAT job with your videos. I’ve made several of your recipes and nobody died or got pregnant.😉. They turned out fantastic. If I don’t like a flavor or texture, I just tweak it or go on to the next recipe. What a concept!!!

Exactly Kristi. People sometimes are so rude on here. There are times that it has crossed my mind to delete my whole channel because of the negativity. No one sees the struggle behind the camera. Trying to over come the nervousness of being on video for the whole world to set and judge you. The struggle of coming up with new content that may be of interest to my viewers. Overcoming some of the hurtful things that people have said. The struggle and frustration of having to repeat the same sentence over and over to get it to come out right lol. They also don't see the cost involved into having a youtube channel or the hours spent at a desk editing video. I could really go on and on lol. Instead they get to click on my video and watch it no strings attached and no stress involved. I've never promoted myself as a professional. I'm just a simple country woman from KY cooking in her kitchen. I enjoy cooking and sharing with others and nothing more or less. I'm sorry for typing a page worth of text for a reply but I want you to know that I appreciate your kind words and encouragement. People like you are the only reason why I have hung in there this far. Thank you!

Golly I would never do that put unrinsed beans straight into the pot. I would not want to eat those beans even though the cooking killed and sanitized whatever May have been in or on them. I have broken a tooth from An unpopped popcorn kernal so I would be afraid of small pebble.

Wow! What a simple recipe! And from the comments and other southern folk seems like this is the way to make them for a delicious pot! Im Puertorican and was born and raised in Pennsylvania...we put many more ingredients in our beans..we do use either ham or fatback and use potato as our thickner in the beans. I just completed a crosscountry roadtrip through the U.S. and went through KY on the way west. I so wanted to stop for a meal but i had no time. 😔 I'm new to the instant pot ( my son got it for me for xmas), and that's how i came across your video...this looks great, and i'm going to try it your way! these days I find small lumps of clay more than rock in the beans I have been buying, There is at least 1 in every bag, Almost like it is by intention just to keep up looking. :)

No criticism here. We just do it slightly different in our part of the woods. I prefer to use a smoked ham hock with a little thyme a couple of bay leaves and sage. I look for a large ham hock and take the meat off the bone after cooking and add it to the beans. I love the smoky flavor of the ham hock. Yummy! Other than that, everything's just perfect. We have had the Instant Pot for about a year and a half now and use it all the time. Making bean soup from scratch in less than 2 hours is great. Sure beats the old way of soaking the beans all night.

I agree. I love my Instant Pot. I have also used a smoked ham hock as well and yes they work nicely for adding flavor to the beans. Thanks for sharing!

I have seen some people on YT say they soak the beans overnight and they turn out better in the Instant Pot. Someone else said they don't add salt until after the beans are finished cooking because it makes them tough. I don't know if either of those methods are true, as I am much better at eating than cooking : ) Thanks for sharing the vid.

I spread my dry beans out on a dinner plate a little at a time and sort them first then I rinse them. Much easier. And no, this not criticism. This is just a tip. You can either use it or not. Your choice.

Columbo that’s what my mom did. She’d put them on the kitchen table with a strainer in her lap and pick out the dirt balls and beans broken in half and put the good in her lap. I would sit in another chair and help her. Awwww memories. Hers would sit all day cooking on the stove and the smell would fill the house with a heavenly aroma. How great that the time can now be so short!

I make my pintos the same except. I saute onions and a diced jalapeno with bacon (to render the fat).. THEN i cook the beans for 35 minutes high pressure.. and simmer after manual pressure release...for another 20 to 30 minutes.. makes for a perfect pot of pintos.. I donot add white beans at all.. If want white beans or navy I make them separate ... Pintos are great by themselves with corn bread.. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Your beans look perfect!! I'm a few yrs late to the IP game but glad I finally got one. I love that you turned it to sautee at the end; I watched a couple videos before this and they didn't do that. Also love that you added a pork chop to yours! I always use country ham pcs that come in a pack - I use em for greens too. There have been times when I couldn't find ham & I feel like a dummy for not throwing a pork chop in! 💗 Anyway, just wanted to give you props. Can I come eat? 😂

What size is your Insta Pot in this video? On a stove, I usually use 12 cups water to 1 lb dried beans, can I use this same ratio to pressure cook in a 3 qt insta pot, or is yours a 6 qt? Thanks in advance.
@SandrasKitchen
@SandrasKitchen 3 жыл бұрын
This is the 6 qt Insta Pot. I'm thinking it would be a little crowded for 12 cups of water but you probably could use a little less water and still have great results.
