Roadmap for the legacy cos to get with it. So far it looks Volvo whose retooling their main plant in Sweden to make only evs from late 2025. Spending billions to do it, will use a single piece rear casting like this. Nio also claims the upcoming et5 which is a model 3 competitor launching later this year will have a single piece rear casting assembly. I can't wait to see in 3-5 year's just how many manufacturer's use large castings. And how much the tech evolves from here. Oh and the tesla patent to make the entire outer frame from one giant casting in the 12k ton press could also happen. Imagine basically a whole car assembled from just 4 mega castings. 👍🏻😎

I fly a drone over the factory three times a week beginning two months after the start of construction. Would have loved to see how it came together inside. Tesla started testing out the casting machines about nine months ago. Many castings ended up in a dumpster. I assume the aluminum was recycled.

Yes, rejected castings are just differently shaped ingots. Just throw them back into the furnace and reuse.
@nixinkome2 жыл бұрын
I am a recycling nut too and I think that ANY damage sustained by future Tesla products will be disassembled by bots, with access to downloadable production plans, and then recycled. This means that it will be cheaper to replace the product than to 'mend' it, local scarcities excepted. I applaud reuse but even simplified complexity requires cleaning.
