Ordinarily I would agree w/ you--but in this instance I believe the dealership. The vehicle was only ≈$4,000--which means they had a nominal profit--hence, minimal motivation to lie. If you're going to sell your integrity, do it for a price that makes sense.

I would bet they didnt outright say no, but in "trying to see what they could do" the dude got enraged. His only legal recourse may have been a civil suit, and if he really felt like the dealership "stole" from him, should have called the cops himself. The dealer shares some blame ethically, but probably not legally.

It still happens at some dealerships. You are correct tho as my gfs cousin works at a hyndai dealership as a mechanic and he said a scummy car sales guy there sold a mini van to a family and never told them it wasn't inspected or gone through as they just took it on trade and sold it to a lady with kids and she had an accident or lost brakes cant remember when he got it to check it out flipped out as the car had crumbling brake pads and rotors , a bad brake line and other major stuff and the kid sold it and didn't care at all sadly

funny how on the news the scammer sellers say they would have gladly gave back the money but when the guy went to them they refused. and now we know they knowly sold hima car that was bad. companies need to realize people have reached the point where they will shoot people even if said person goes to jail at least they can take out evil people from hurting others. let's imagine what if that car that THE dealership knew was bad and hadn't been checked it broke somewhere and caused many deaths who would be blamed. they would use the the customer knew it was bad and we knew it was bad but we didn't care so we sold him a faulty and if they died oh well. they would have lawyered up and it would take years in court before the company would admit fault pay some fines "fire" the one who sold the car and say they fixed the issue, and when the heat was off them they would keep selling broken cars to people. I have no sympathy for them it will take a more companies being targeted by people before they realize trying to fuck over people is bad news and they better have people in rotation when one get killed they will need more

Not condoning what the guy did but they're not saying what his problem was with the car. If they knowingly sold him a lemon then you can truly understand the frustration. No dealership is ever going to buy a car without a mechanic at least going over it. Saying "it wasn't inspected" is a copout.

@P2B_JC
@P2B_JC Ай бұрын
A "lemon" is a legal term that may only be applied to a new vehicle. Also, most dealership mechanics leave the shop by 5pm. Most dealerships close between 7-9pm. There are some cars that managers decide are not worth inspecting. For example: I once took in a 15 year old car with severe body damage and 200,000 miles. I gave the customer $100 for it. It costs me $400 to sell it at auction, which means I would own it for $500. Even if I lose money at auction, it won't be much. So, I decide it's not worth it to inspect it. My service team takes the keys anyway, gives it to a union tech, bills 3 hours for a new battery, oil change, wipers, and some other random stuff, and sends me a bill for like $500. So I go to the service manager and tell him I'm not paying a dime for inspecting an obvious auction piece where the body was falling apart and the Transmission was obviously slipping. Even had a check engine light on. We negotiate the bill down, and I'm still pissed months later. So now I write on the keys "DO NOT INSPECT", so the service department doesn't take them and bill me money for a car that I have no intention on selling to a customer.

This dealer is run by dummies. 1) no reputable dealer sells an uninspected used car, 2) Its no big deal to unwind a used car purchase - its still a used car at the end of the day, 3) its foolish not to let an irate customer unwind a less than $5,000 car - its not like the profit loss from this one small sale would tank the dealer. This man on a small budget came in and after leaving with his purchase realized that he had been rooked. Either the car had major mechanical issues (likely), or the contract was userous in some way. I'm retired from a 30 year career in the car business. My responsibilities were of course to keep the dealership profitable - but at the same time my prime directive was to insure the safety of all customers and employees. My dealer never questioned my decisions because I had a long track record of putting the customer first - and letting that drive profits and employee retention. People will actually pay more for a car if they genuinely feel they can trust the dealer to always do the right thing. The one thing to avoid is a war with a customer. Its not about the business as much as it is about a lying con man that sells cars. Why would a car dealership sell a car that has obvious problems? That is the problem, and What we haven't heard is the side of the person who bought the car so keep that in mind. There are multiple people in the comment section that say they have used this guy before and he swindled them all. This guy thinks we believe him when he says he told the man about the car not being inspected.
