from a BBC June1968 radio performance, what a treasure to hear poor Sandy introducing and then performing this old Gaelic piece.. there are only a handful of taped performances for which you can hear Sandy speak or be interviewed and it is her laughter for which I will remember for a lifetime. I saw poor Sandy perform twice about 1974. Also reminds me of her version of the King and Queen of England.

By myself I'd be in Árd Tí Cuain Where the mountain stands away And 'tis I would let the Sunday go In the quiet glen above the bay Agus och, och Éire lig is o Éire leann-dubh is o Ah, the quiet land of Èirinn Ah my heart is weary all alone And it sends a lonely cry To the land that sings beyond my dreams And the lonely Sundays pass me by I would ravel back the twisted years In the bitter wasted winds If the lord above would let me lie In a quiet place above the whins

There's a whistling sound that softly comes in around 2:30. I'm not sure what it is but it kinds of adds a pleasant eeriness to the song.

Sounds to me like radio interference, but yes it does seem to add an eerie backing sound to what is a really quite gorgeous piece of music.

Ardí Cuan. What class Sandy was. Ar Dheis Dé. One of the few English artists I have ever heard sing as Gaeilge, and she gets it spot on. Just shows what a true artist she was.
