Love the chit chat! My favorite part was when you found that Catt in sheath and Sandy said she was trying hard not to touch it and you said “are you one of those?” LOL What a collection of Neofenetias!

This was truly a fun way to catch up with your friend and have her showcase her finest. Sandy has a beautiful screened patio collection of Neofinetia. Really thinking about where to capitalize some much needed space on my patio for small denisoniana and tessellata vanda. The backyard was claimed a long time ago for my husband's butterfly garden. I did encroach on his turf but he doesn't seem to mind too much as long as I attempt to keep the screened patio clean.

It was such a fun time together and I seriously enjoyed every minute of it. Wow, I can only imagine how beautiful your yard and growing space is! Orchids and a butterfly garden?! Sounds like heaven. If you’re considering filling your screened patio with orchids, neos and other miniature orchids are out there. They’re still very rewarding and absolutely mesmerizing how they can bloom on such small plants.

You definitely have to come to Tamiami. It's spectacular. It's inside. The only bad thing is that since it's in a closed place, sometimes you can't even walk, but I recommend it. It's January, the second week.❤❤❤

Thanks for showing, would love to know how the orchid benches were constructed.

Thank you for watching! Sandy said that space was originally a flower bed with river-stones as the ground cover. She dug all the stones out and leveled the ground in preparation for the pavers. Once pavers were placed as the foundation, she used cinderblocks as the bench legs and used them also to tier the shelves. Liquid nails was the product she used to secure the cinderblocks together. The shelves are pressure treated boards. All materials were purchased from Lowe’s.

I might have missed it but I'm curious what direction the falcatas at the beginning are facing and whether they stay there year-round. I got a couple falcatas a couple years ago from Hausermann, the shipping was magic, one was freshly in bloom with light paper wrapped around each spike and the flowers were pristine (!!). I swear I'm not advertising for them! Just my experience. Anyway, it skipped a year and bloomed again this year, and the other one, a pink variety which was listed as a year away from blooming isn't showing any signs of wanting to bloom. I'm in a condo with only northern exposure, and a stairwell blocking the mid-day sun, so I think my light might be a little too low. I do have a Sharry Baby also from Hausermann about to bloom after two years, and Dens so maybe it's not too bad but Cattleyas and Brassavolas are showing zero signs of blooming.

Sandy says, “They are in the north east corner of my lanai, and slightly more east in winter (like three feet). I also mist every day and give them a heavier mist in summer to mimic their natural environment of a late monsoon summer.” I’m sorry to hear you haven’t seen these varieties bloom for you. Not enough light is the typical issue for Cattleyas, Brassavolas, and Dendrobiums to not bloom. If light is an issue, we always recommend getting some grow lights to help.

@@IngramOrchidsandMore Hmm, I think I'll leave them where they are. Dendrobiums are blooming, just not Catts and Brass. The wind orchid that's not blooming was sold as being a year away from blooming so if the other skipped a year it doesn't surprise me if the pink one (shutennou I believe) takes at least an extra year. They both had setbacks from the original roots not transitioning from the pot to a wood mount I put them on but the new roots are happy with it, and I get to see all the pink tips :)
