Great video as always, only thing is that Adelaide's SANFL team as part of the agreement to let the Crows field a SANFL team, they technically don't have a home ground. They are allowed to have a "home" game against the Port reserves, but that home game is played at a ground somewhere else in the state. Only exception was in 2016 against Sturt. Adelaide Oval does however host the SANFL Grand Final each year (well, since 2014)
@Brucetiki1 Жыл бұрын
The manual scoreboard at Glenelg Oval was replaced with an electronic scoreboard a couple of months ago. Prior to this, it was the last remaining SANFL ground with an analogue time clock. The red brick grandstand has also been demolished after a storm damaged it beyond repair in 2016. Another fun fact about Glenelg Oval. It’s 50 metre arcs are actually only 45 metres to avoid the 50 metre arcs crossing into the centre square.
@Swolphacles Жыл бұрын
That’s heartbreaking to know 😂 I snagged a sausage from beyond the arc playing for North 19s when we got belted by 100 odd points and thought I sailed it for over 50 😂

Sturt are the Double Blues because Unley Oval sits at the point where Oxford Terrace and Cambridge Terrace meet. They use both Oxford blue and Cambridge blue.
@shaundgb73678 ай бұрын
Interesting. Why did Sturt play here instead of their own suburb of Sturt itself?
@nicegan89028 ай бұрын
@@shaundgb7367 There is no suburb of Sturt. It's named after a parliamentary electorate.
@shaundgb73678 ай бұрын
@@nicegan8902 You could have fooled me.... "Sturt is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Marion local government area. It was named after the explorer Captain Charles Sturt." "www.abs.gov.au/census/find-census-data/quickstats/2021/SAL41401" Hopefully someone else can answer my question why they play so far away rom Sturt itself.
@EarlJohn617 ай бұрын
About the only reason I can recall, that isn't an obvious fabrication, (But it still might be) is that when they formed the club, most of the men lived closer to the suburb of Marion, but the was no suitable playing ground that was both big enough and available... So they took up with Unley Oval and stayed there. As I say, this might be false, but it seems plausible and nothing else is as likely.
You might be seeing more of Norwood Oval in the AFL during the next few years .
@DanielRoss-m1v7 ай бұрын
Some of the pictures are very old. The HY Sparks stand (the red brick one) at Glenelg Oval was destroyed by a storm on 28 December 2016 and was subsequently demolished. It has been replaced by a grassed terraced area while still using the old back wall.

my top 9 favourite sanfl ovals [im not including adelaide oval as its very obvious it would be #1] 9: Unley Oval [Feels like a regular local park or club oval than a professional oval. lack of places to watch the footy and can get over crowded, whenever the major event like sturt or the aflw crows plays. they have to bring the council to put fences around the oval just so people can get through the gates] 8: Hickinbotham Oval [Only oval you can bring your car to watch the game and its cool. other than that. its an okay oval. lack of atmosphere and its the furthest oval away from the adelaide's cbd] 7: Norwood oval [Overrated oval. it does have good atmosphere and history but the surface of the ground it self is very rock hard that the aflw teams refused to play there. it can get overcrowded whenever its packed. i used to like this oval but more i been the more i dislike it. also good luck trying to find a park around the ground because its almost impossible] 6: Elizabeth oval [At least if it gets overcrowded you can actually still walk around in places. atmosphere is decent and the only oval that the walk away is front row. the oval would of bean higher but i can't stand the supporters and the club it self. not a horrible ground but the fans kinda ruins it] 5: Richmond Oval [out of all the ovals. this feels like a footy oval more than the other grounds. everywhere you go you will always have a good spot to watch the game, it can barley get overcrowded so you have free range to walk. they did do a bit of an upgrade to add some playgrounds and some grass bits to lay down on to watch the game which is cool. only down side is that the bloods fans have the weakest attendance so sometimes it looks empty but still not a bad oval.] 4: Woodville [Only bean there a few times and its not a bad oval. good Atmosphere, Decent location, good club and enjoy watching games there.] 3: Alberton oval [I am a bit biased as im a port fan but this oval is home for me. i always have good moments being here and its a very good oval. currently its a training ground for both power and magpies and the maggies does play all the home games here. theres very good history of the club is well. always good atmosphere and brings alot the away crowd here is well. only down side that it can get a bit feral and some view restrictions from the stands] 2: Glenelg Oval [I actually enjoy this oval a lot. i love how theres a bar and you can sit down on a table and high chair from the side while watching the game. the atmosphere is very good and the location near a beach, who can't complain.] 1: prospect oval [I've never met one bad person at this oval and its a beautiful oval. lots of trees, great Atmosphere, good for the cricket is well and i really enjoy this oval. one only small down side is that theres lack of parking as your not allowed to park after 12pm on a weekend but excluding that. its probably my favourite sanfl oval]

At long last! The poor cousin to the other states, it’s league has grown and shrunk like a man’s enthusiasm when he found out his latest hook-up has the same tackle has him. The demise of the Woodpecker. A blight on an Aussie icon! What happened to Thebarton oval, the home of West Torrens Eagles?
@Blanket_ Жыл бұрын
They still play some pre-season games there I think? It's currently being considered as the new home of the crows training facilities and as a ground for their reserves. The locals are worried they might not be allowed to walk their dogs there anymore tho so they're kicking up a bit of a stink
@Brucetiki1 Жыл бұрын
@@Blanket_ the irony is, the Adelaide Crows development of Thebby will open up the ground for community use for the first time in decades.
