🔥 DAW plugins vs purchased plugins? What do you think?
@priawanwibisono2261

As a beginner I tried to focus with stock plugin first. While there are Serum or Echoboy, I'll stick with Wavetable and Echo to really master it first. Even I still don't understand some plugin specifically compressor, I can't tell the difference from your video (maybe because I'm using phone speaker). But I heard Glue Compressor is nice enough so I don't need buy anything. Oh, maybe vocal processor though, I'm eyeing Ovox or Vocalsynth and waiting real discount

It depends. For example, I use Presonus’s fat channel a lot for recording. But when I mix I primarily use Plugin Alliance, Izotope, and Soundtoys. Almost all of my instrument plugins are purchased (Arturia V collection, Korg Triton, Spitfire Audio, and Ample Sound)

I love ableton and its plugins but visually the aren’t so nice and you can’t float or resize them... my eyes aren’t so great and they can be hard for me to read for this reason I use mostly 3rd party aside from eq8 and auto filter..... however I will say the max for live lfo tool has become necessity for me

For instruments I'd go without doubt for external plugins. For effects I think is okay to start with stock plugins, and also they have better cpu usage. But with the time, I think is really nice to try external plugins to improve workflow, discovering new sounds and stay creative 😄

Pigments doesn't get enough credit for how good of a synth it is. I was happy to see it at your #1 spot! It has a great granular synth in it, great wavetable control (not as good as serum but still good), and a huge sample library that comes with it full of one shot guitars pianos, ethnic plucked instruments, strings, foley, voice, drums, etc that are ready to go for processing. Color coded parameters is also a huge QOL I didn't know I needed and wish I had in my other main synths I use. The best part about it is that is has one of the best integrated arpeggiators I've used in any synth and is my go-to when making any arps. Huge control of individual glide, gate, and velocity steps. Capable of polyrhythmic timing of each of those parameters. And an swing knob that works in percentages instead of just on/off so it's easy to sync to my project's swing level. I haven't touched the Ableton stock arp since getting Pigments on release! Definitely worth it for just that.

Compared to Khs Phaseplant, it's literally nothing. Might as well use Massive X at that point lol .. I mean... don't. It's shit. But Pigments doesn't have half the features of Phaseplant. Hell, Harmor came out years ago, and I'd say that's also far better.

Favourite Synth Sanjay is also my newest purchase, Viper. By far the best synth i've used for Hardstyle / Rave Big Room and for people who are just getting into sound design it's perfect, very easy to use. Also, as it's ( relatively ) new it's being updated and growing which means soon it'll be a competitor for any synth out there imo. Definitely more for the Harder styles but in this category, and for me personally , the best!

Great video again Sanjay. Pigments - Check, VintageVerb - Check, Raum - Check, Soundtoys bundle - Check, Alicia's Keys - Check, Arturia Pianos - Check, Omnisphere - Check, Ozone - Check. Keyscape I would definately like to buy at one point but I will wait until a nice deal (maybe during Black Friday). Waves I'll avoid due to their update policy. Nexus would be nice but it is way too expensive for what you get. For beginners who do not know any music theory Scaler2 by Plugin Boutique might be nice. And as an addition I would recommend that if people do not own any Native Instrument plugins or they find the bundle too expensive, at least consider buying Kontakt. It is still widely used and a lot of nice and cheap deals are for plugins that run in Kontakt but are for the full version a lot of the times.

Knifonium. I'm very, very novice, but I couldn't resist on the 40 bucks sale recently after hearing some preset demos and downloading a trial of it. I can imagine others are accurate in saying it's not a true powerhouse/workhorse like Serum or a few others, but it's got a really nice sound and a lot of care clearly went into it. Some of the presets alone are fantastic and it just has some really nice sounds. I can't wait to learn how to wield it and whole suite of effects built into it to go to fun new places with the most inspiring presets like Eagle's Song.

I like plugins from Analog Obsession, they,re free yes but they model so many great vintage analog and as somebody who used a lot of waves stuff and ssl stuff before I left the studio I was working at, compared to those analog obsession stuff especially the LOADED 500 series vst and the BUSTERe which is an SSL bus comp emulation are excellent

Hey I have a recommendation for compressors, presswerk by uhe is excellent for beginners as its like a one compressor for all analog compression needs, u can choose between many different compressors inside and also design ur own, melda also has somethin similar like melda turbo comp😁

Pigments is an amazing synth. Capable of so much. What about a guitar cab/amp emulator plug-in like Amplitube?
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Honestly, I don't use guitar amp plugins too much, but from the ones I've tried, Positive Grid and IK MUltimedia are my favs

Amplitube is a pretty great value for everything you get in it. I have v4 and I use it for most stuff when I don't want to put in a lot of effort. I always record in amplitube and import into my daw later.

my favorite synth plugin is digits, it's a phase distortion synth that models the casio cz line and it has a really interesting and unique workflow that can create great and Interesting sounds. usually I'm wary of weird free plugins because they tend to be not great, but this one definitely is great.

I'm not sure if the FL plugins were available for other DAW's when this was posted, But Vocodex is a great tool. Also the whole Kilohearts bundle is great but the most necessary in my opinion are the Multipass specifically 2.0 + Due to the Convolver which is awesome and can change your sound drastically, Disperser, and Phasplant (Phenominal Synth). Some other good processing plugins are Schaack Audio Transient Shaper, Kilohearts transient shaper is not bad as well but Schaakk audio just has more of an analogue feel to it. V-Clip or G-Clip are a must have. I prefer V-Clip. Also Shaperbox & Infiltrator. Tone2 Bifilter Is a must have for me (The Comb Filter is insane, as well as the vowels and many others). Tone2's AkutiXs is great too. Kick 2 Is definitely a must have as it makes it easy to design your own custom kicks. The Fab-Filter Budle is also a must have I use their plug-ins on every track.

I have a bunch of synths. My favorits synths I mostly use, are Diva, Hive and Zebra from U-HE, SynthMaster and I love all the synth from Cherry Audio. I have them all. The last Eight Voice is a great synth and inexpensiv. Then special synths like Loom2 for pads, or the FM Synth Dexed or Solina Redux, is a nice string synth. And I like the iZotope stuff for Mixing, Mastering and Effekts, but i like as well there Iris2 and Break Tweaker. For composing Scaler2! My last invest is Unify from PluginGuru. A very interesting vst plugin, to build up layers of sounds and You can integrate as well near all of your other vst plugins, like in a daw, but much easier and than use ist as an instrument. I know, I can do this with Ableton as well, but Unify is much more flexibel. Comes with a lot of presets.
