MS amma was goddess saraswathi, goddess lakshmi, and goddess durga all rolled into one person. For a person like me who has grown up in the US but love both carnatic and Hindustani vocal music I am reminded of my younger days when I was part of a bhajan mandali group in my city where I grew up and we used to learn and sing many of MS amma's sthothrams like ganesha pancharatnam, hanuman chalisa, naama ramayanam, durga pancharatnam, Jayden's dhashavatharam, kanakadhara sthothram, bhajagovindham, and many other shlokams and sthothrams rendered by MS amma and we used to render these in the temple during all the hindu festivals. I feel blessed to have learnt these in my younger days and I still actually remember all these even now and still and render these. 🙏🙏🙏

Amma made every one at ease with her, whether that person is a great musician or a knowledgeable rasika or a paamara devotee (of hers) like me. That is her greatest n unique quality. No wonder, whatever she sang became (as if) that song or sthuthi was written or composed, only for MS Amma to render. She used to say... "if u rehearse a song several times ... take it as a repeated prayer that u do, by repeatedly uttering a manthra or Sthuthi. Deem ur repetition as a Prayer to the Almighty". That is the way, she chiseled each and every song with meticulous care & devotion, n left it for us to learn, recite and even mentally view the Deity described in the song. Sivam Subam

Lovely memories of MSS Maami. I have heard the same advice from here - she used to tell me that one should practice a song at least 72 times before it becomes etched in your memory. Then she would wink, smile, and ask me "unnaku porumai undaa?"!!

Dear Sir, Your narration about MS Amma was quite moving indeed. She became part of our daily life. I well remember, as children & kids, we used to wake up Daily Morning hearing Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatam in her Voice. And No need to mention about Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam. The Vibration we used to get from her recital is something Special & Unmatched. Just keeping our eyes closed and listening to her rendition for those 20 minutes will easily land us in a state of meditation. When I was young, I learnt to recite Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam only listening to her Tapes. I would have a small booklet with me, would play her Tape and listen to & follow her recital closely - using a technique that we used to follow while taking down Shorthand Notes - that is, one should listen to the phonetic sound of each syllable / phrase by following her recital by a Few Words from Behind so that your Observation & Following-flow will be smooth and you will not get struck Or miss out any phrase abruptly. This Technique helped me to Read Sahasranamam fluently in 1 Month's Time and it automatically got bye-hearted by me in 3 Months' time. Just thought of sharing with you this interesting tip here. I think, it was in April 1998 we listened to her Kutcheri in person @ the Open Premises (erected with a Pandhal) Close to Nanganallur Sri Anjaneyar Swami Temple. Sri RK Sriram Kumar only accompanied on the Violin on that day too. Probably, seeing the huge crowd and charged by that sprawling ambience, may be influenced by the thought of Thiruvaiyaaru, she straightaway began with Jagadhaa nandha Kaaraga on a full throttle. Of course, she ended the programme with Kurai Ondrum illai. That event is still lingering in my memory. Thanx for sharing with us your experience with her.

Yes,sir.anything about M.S.Amma is very interesting.I was fortunate to meet her at my cousins'wedding in 1975. Both Sadasivam mama& amma attende like Parvathi &Parameswara.We could hear "mamava pattabhirama" &the wedding venue became pin drop silence.

@@kumark8363 🙏 MSS's rendition is the Template for many Devotional Songs & Slokams like Naama Raamaayanam, Bhajagovindam, Hanuman Chalisa, Bhaavayaami, Rangapoora vihara, Sri Ranga Gatyam, Govindaashtagam, etc. which always creates a Divinely ambience at all our homes. (I was under the impression that the National Song "Vande Mataram" aired Daily Morning in the AIR was actually rendered by her. But, it's not. It was rendered by AIR Singers. I found this info now only while checking this in the You Tube. I now stand corrected).

Sanjay sir. Please do a talk about mysuru pittilu chowdiah.( pittilu is the kannada word for violin). He invented the famous 7 stringed violin and used to play this and he has accompanied many great musicians. And he has also composed many krithis, varnams etc.. I am from mysuru and even I don't know his full history... But from what I have heard about him, he was a great musician and even performed in the mysuru palace under the wodeyar dynasty. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
