I love grown up Sansa. She understands what The Hound did for her and Arya. She knows The Hound loves them, and also knows that he will never express this. She then shows her appreciation for him with a gesture that he will understand and leaves what they both know unsaid.

@@nykia31 sansa's arc is my favorite throughout the entire show. we watched a naive little girl get broken down every single time she became a little ambitious, and each time she became stronger than before. she's so confident here, completely unrecognizable from her childhood self, wheras her siblings remain relatively the same save for bran, but i digress. sandor saw an innocence in her and wanted to preserve and protect it and simultaneously wanted her to grow up so that she could save herself without becoming bitter and vengeful, without having to struggle to redeem herself and fulfill her potential like he has. sandor could not save himself or fulfill his potential, but he could prevent the stark girls from enduring the same hell he has, and so he did.

@@Oseite excellent point, I also think Arya was more a realist about the world they lived in similar to the Hound, Sansa was living in a fairytale world where she actually wanted to be a princess and queen even when it involved being married to some lesser evil men. Sansa had to learn through her harsh experiences the reality of the kingdom/world they lived in, Arya had a quicker headstart into realizing that- she saw her friend get killed first hand because of idiot Joffrey and then later her own brother Rob's death being mocked, the Hound was always one of my absolute favorite characters of the whole series- he saw through all the bs

One the bést characters in the show if you ask me. For an unknown actor, Rory McCann ACED his role as Sandor 'the Hound' Clegane. Immense character-development, and outstanding acting! A grouchy bear of a warrior, but in his heart he was just síck of the world he knew. Serving in King's Landing was not the 'honorable' duty people always jabbered on about. Backstabbing, moneygrubbing, arsekissing.. one corrupted big shithole, and he was in the middle of it, doing the dirtiest of it all. He knew what the place really was. He had seen how 'honorable knights' shát on vows and just did as they pleased, protected by their 'Knighthood-Titles', getting away with crimes and more, simply because they were kissing the right arse. Thats why he never accepted a Knighthood! He was a loyal soldier! Not some shithead of a Knight in painted armor. He didnt need 'looks', he had his skill and experience, and that was more then enough to best ány Knight in painted armor, and people FEARED him for it! Perhaps the greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms, and he was treated 'like a Dog'. Not an ounce of respect for his loyalty, efficiency and the order hé managed to uphold, even my showing himself, let alone draw steel and butcher a bunch of chanceless shitstains that'd call themselves 'people'. If the Hound came for you, you knew you were fucked! It was even more iconic how he cut through FOUR Kingsguards in the final scene, statement to Barristan Selmy's 'Carving a Cake'. Sandor Clegane simply wás that good! He even managed to defeat his big brother Gregor, quite easily as Gregor mostly relied on his strenght and armor, yet as a zombified walking corpse, his mind was addled, and he was made 'undying'....Still Sandor managed to kill the unkillable monster... And throughout the show you saw: he wasnt an 'evil' man, not at all. He was loyal to evil men, sworn his oath, and followed orders... But at heart, he was a good man! To quote Arya; 'Sandor....thank you!'

That sounds like a pathetic D&D background. Sandor did not give a single shit about either of the Stark girls until he got to know them. When he did get to know them, he saw their strength of character and only then respected them as people. He did not care about the girl child of the cotter/innkeeper. In fact, he was openly contemptuous of her and her father because he thought that they both would become victims of the harsh world. The first part of his time spent with Arya, he just wanted to use her as a bargaining chip.

Well, Sandor did realise that just about every Lord in the South would be out to capture him and deliver him to Cersei for a hefty reward or Cersei's favor. The North however had no ties to Cersei Lannister or the Iron Throne. And what Sandor did for both Sansa, and especially Arya, is something the Starks wont forget. 'The North Remembers'. And they'll remember Sandor Clegane as an honorable man. One who was ordered by bounds of loyalty to do terrible things, but once broken free of that, and following his own 'moral code', he fought with honor and fought bravely to defend Arya. He fought fór the Starks in the Battle of the Long Night, and thats how they will remember him. Sandor doesnt fear anyone or anything(except fire perhaps), but the Starks are perhaps the only House he still respects. No pretenders, no 'glorious knights in shining armor', no The Northmen are as real as you can find them. Sandor would have fitted in with the Northmen, fár better then any allegiance to any Southern 'c*nt' with gold in their purse.

What I love is the physical demonstration of Sansa’s evolution. He pointed out early in the conversation that she used to not be able to look at him. After he gently rebukes her for not coming with him, where he could have prevented so much of her pain, abuse, and manipulation, she physically holds his hand. Holding his hand is proof of her growth while she’s says without that experience, she would have stayed a frightened little bird, incapable of appreciating his character because of his scary appearance.
@szahmad2416 Жыл бұрын
VERY good noticing. I would add too that there is a different subtext in their conversation. Sandor didn't want her to believe that he would have been brutal or traitorous with her if she had come with her. I think he noticed the way she was always afraid of him and quietly hated it. So when she held his hand, not only was she saying she had grown, but also telling him she was not afraid of him, that she had actually appreciated him, and thereby validating him.

People hate Sansa’s character and blame her for her whinging in the early seasons and some of her choices in the later season. She’s one of my favourite characters, top 5 for sure, maybe even top 3.

@@christianromeo9075 to speak as one of those who "Do not like her" but can still appreciate literally "anyones" positive aspects of their Defining "Characteristics "... Sansa in my opinion is not very likable. She is a victim of abuse yes. But who isn't. She turned into an abuser. She got everything handed to her. She Didnt make moves unless she had power/control over others. Everything she chose was to save herself or give her more power. Can't really blame her though Most people would have Done similar. But looking at others younger then her or in perspective harder situations, she remained entitled and prideful to the entire time. Yea she became "stronger" but she never humbles herself and never worked. She treats others as if they are less then. She is no leader. She's just another Dictator with a sad sob story looking for attention. Before the attention was focused on her "suffering". Now it's focused on her "strengths". All prideful either way. She focuses on herself. She is only nice to those who make her feel good or give her something. Arya and Jon were better siblings. She's similar to narcissists. I Dont see her make any genuine intention sacrifice in any way. She never sacrifices for others. Sorry for the spam 😅 not trying to come off abrasive. Just getting to the point of my "perspective ". Speaking also as someone who has gone through abuse, this scene makes me absolutely hate and despise the (almost certainly heterosexual male) writer who wrote this bit of dialogue. This whole idea that a woman needs to be “broken in good” and maybe abused/raped a bit in order to “grow up” and go from being idealistic and hopeful to cynical and disparaged. Like that’s a *good* thing? Ugh! What makes it especially offensive is that it’s diametrically opposed to how their relationship was in the books! In A Clash of Kings, it’s Sandor who is changed by Sansa’s unwavering believe in the good and “true knights” in the face of scores of horrific and brutal things happening to her. And it’s Sandor who has to self-reflect, seeing this little bird be mentally stronger and more hopeful than she has any right to be. Whereas here in the show Sansa gets raped and abused and apparently “learns her lesson” or something, I guess, and ends up a brutal and amoral killer like the hound. Which is a horrible perversion of the characters as GRRM had written them.

I wish he had stayed at winterfell. The only thing that bothers me about this scene is her last statement. I would guess a man must've wrote it. Giving a rapist and a betrayer credit for Sansa become who she is. They almost make her sound grateful she was raped, and that's really not ok. I dont think that's how Sansa would actually feel at all. I dont believe theres a woman on earth that would feel like that. I think the writer did a disservice to women and to Sansa's character. But otherwise, I loved this episode. I hated episode 3. But I think this episode is my favorite. RIP Rhaegal and Missandei. That broke my heart.

It didn't came out well but I see what they are trying to say... I was quite naive and something happened (not rape). I didn't liked it, but what happened happened and it did made me less naive and more aware/stronger. Sansa learned from her hardship, it's eather swimming or drowning. Especially in such a hard world. I don't think the writers meant Sansa to be totally fine with it.
@Odsidin4 жыл бұрын
I believe the implication is that all of her experiences, good or bad, have made her into what she is at this moment. She's not grateful for the rape, betrayal, abuse, etc., but she's proud of who she is now. Sansa is no longer a "little bird," who used to run from her problems but rather now she is a strong character that can take a beating and then give it back ten fold. Practically everyone who has ever wronged her ends up dead by the end of the show. Whether this is believable for women or not I have no idea, as i'm not a woman, but I know women who have suffered from rape and abuse and have ended up very strong people as a result of it. I don't see it as a credit to the rapist, but a testament to how strong that woman is.

Look at the tears building in her eyes from 1:52 to 2:04. She regrets not going with him, but can see the strength she was forced to acquire from having to deal with Ramsey and Little Finger. But I'm sure she'd rather have gone with Sandor, looking back. Would rather have that innocent identity as Little Bird under his protection. See sadness on her face when Little Bird is mentioned at 1:30. She grabs his hand as a symbol of appreciation and general love for him as a human, and maybe more - this display must've been hard for her given everything she's been through. I mean apart from hugging family that's all she's willingly done with anyone the entire series. But that's also all she's able to emote willingly at that point, and Sandor cannot take her hand in his, probably from his own guilt and self-image issues. My bet is (like the other comments) there was a good relationship potential here, both interested in each other but the characters needed more time to develop with each other.

At first I labeled the Hound as a villain 'cause he was gruff and because of his burnt face. He also killed that boy who was Arya's friend. Then I saw him do little good deeds of his own accord. However, he robbed that father and daughter who helped him and Arya. Then I saw him try and live peacefully, but trouble found him and he embraced who he was once again. He fought against the white walkers and pushed through his fear to protect Arya. I thought he'd maybe give up revenge for a somewhat quiet life in the north, but he went to King's Landing with the goal of ending his brother instead. He was determined to fullfil his revenge, and he knew what he was and that it meant his end. In his final act of kindness, he implores Arya to live, to not throw away her life for something as ugly and wretched as the obsession for revenge. I say all this, because he was a good example of how a fictional character is written in such a way that it captures the essence of how humans can be a mix of good and bad. And that some monsters are there to protect us against the other monsters.
