>You killed Lysa Arryn, my aunt Yeah, after she tried to push you out of the Moon Door because she was insane. If I let her live, she'd have almost certainly killed you at some point when I wasn't present >You told her to kill Robert Arryn and gave her the poison She was mentally unstable and you know it. Her rambling about something in front of you doesn't mean it was true. Even if it was, she'd have tried to kill Robert Arryn anyway because he was trying to send their son away to be the ward of Stannis and she wouldn't allow it. >You owned the knife used in the assassination attempt on my brother How does that make sense? I was in King's Landing when that guy tried to kill Bran. Word of him being in a coma wouldn't have even reached me at the time. What, did I send the knife ahead and tell a guy to kill Bran Stark just in case someone else threw him out of a window for unrelated reasons? >You sold me to the Boltons You consented, and I didn't realize how crazy Ramsay Bolton was at the time, I thought he was just a douchebag like Roose Bolton >You betrayed my father You can't use magical time travel visions that no one else can see as evidence, especially when they're presented by the judge's brother who has every reason to support his sister no matter what, but even if you can, I was obeying the wishes of my king (Joffrey) and didn't know that it would trigger a war. My love for your mother is well-known and it's preposterous to suggest that I would knowingly endanger her

Sansa and Arya believed Bran, which is all that mattered. The people from the Vale doesnt care about his reasoning for killing the Arryns, either, so there was no way the Vale army wouldve helped him
@dorkandproudofit6 жыл бұрын
That would work... if trials in Westeros worked the same as they do in the modern day. In cases like these, the "trial" was often little more than a formality, and if the people present didn't like you anyway--and let's face it, the Knights of the Vale probably preferred the Starks to a guy widely known to be a backstabbing asshole--you were double-screwed, as LF found out when he ran to Yohn Royce. In any case, IMO the whole point of the scene is that as good as LF is at talking, he was as lost in terms of Northern politics as Ned Stark was in the South. The North doesn't give a flying fuck about the lying and scheming that Southron culture actually seems to actively promote, and people like LF don't last long there as a result. Virtually everyone in that courtroom, regardless of what LF could have said, were probably eager to be rid of the weasel.

A master manipulator doesn't go out like that, and the cringy fakeout when Sansa makes it clear she's adressing him. What I liked was that Petyr had this weird aura about him that actually let people concede and be a bit powerless even though physically superior to him. And I would have thought that Bran, in this all-seeing state, would have his behaviour somewhat altered. Like he would be so paralysed in his agency that he actually could not reveal what he knows, because he can see all the infinite ripple effects that revealing the information could have. That would have been interesting to write. But no.

Olenna dumbed it down even for the audience when she listed all the things that happened and said "thanks to your stupidity". She was never smart or even cunning. In hindsight of reading the analyses of AGOT and ASOIAF and the years between the release of the episode and now, this scene I feel actually has some very interesting chatacter moments that give this moment extra weight to highlight the nightmarish awe of this moment. With Littlefinger, we see that underneath the conniving, scheming nature of his position throughout the series, he it at his core a broken romantic boy that developed a nihilistic mask to conceal his injured soul following his disasterous duel with Brandon Stark for Catelyn's hand all those years ago. In this moment, he realises that to his subtle horror and fear, he has through his actions (direct and indirect) created a family generation of smart and truly nihilistic individuals that are utterly changed and no longer who they were at the start of the series that will take the many lessons he has taught them and use them in ways that he could never have conceived possible. A sort of dark subversion of a student surpassing the master trope that we see in fantasy novels. With Sansa, we see the final culmination of her transformation into a political power player of the game of thrones, and see her take full advantage of her knowledge of Littlefinger's schemes and crimes (with the subtle assistance of Bran and Arya) - yet still able to adhere to the honour-bound traditions of her family. With Arya, we get to see both the expert and no-nonsense killer but also how her experiences in TWOT5K have shaped and broken her over the course of the series, a twisted representative of the generation of traumatised children that have grown up admist Littlefinger's organised chaos bringing its morbid justice onto its creator, akin to frankenstein and his monster. Arya still has some ways to go still at this point, but the representation of what she has been forced to become still rings true. I'm not entirely sure about Bran, but with the implication that he's more of a host to Brynden Rivers at this point and a representative of the Wierwood network throughout westeros (a more nature-based magic in comparison to the dragons), this is probably his way of him starting to clear house of the remaining political schemers and advesaries that will lead him to become Bran the Broken. Overall, this is the first time we see the Starks truly playing the Game of Thrones as well. its just that unlike the Lannisters open-handed conniving and scheming, we never truly see what the wolves of Winterfell are thinking or planning. We only do so when its far too late for the victim to really do anything about it.

The Dark Knight Rises music weirdly fits the scene very well. At least the first bit.

I've been watching earlier and later scenes in the series (S1-4 vs S5-8) and there's something about this scene that lacks gravity as compared to the earlier seasons.
