The Sansui AU 2200 is a great little integrated amplifier,
At just 10 watts a channel, still managed to fill my main room with a nice big sound.
Expect to pay £40 to £80 for the au2200
and £80 to £130 for the au101
Sound is open and airy nice big soundstage with plenty of depth and detail.
With nice instrument placement.
I did forget to mention the phono stage in the amp sounds nice, detailed and open as the rest of the amp does.
The Au 2200 has a little more shift towards the midrange frequencies than the AU 101 that has little more bottom end that sounds more richer.
I am pleased to say the the AU 2200 sounded a lot lot better than the AU 2900 I did have.

Sansui 1975 The Golden era.....Great sound quality. 10 (honest) watts is probably today's 50w equivalent. In the room sound stage. You can listen to this amp all day and won't get annoyed, if you know what I mean....Defo audiophile standard

The AU101 was my first proper amp and I loved it. Ran for years, never a problem, bags of power (I remember it being 15 wpc), great looks, build and facilities and sounded better than Pioneer SA500A, Trio KA1001, SonyTA1010, etc, etc. The best entry level amp there was.

Very helpful review i know don't like tge au2900 but how is the bass compared to these two amplifiers?
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 29 күн бұрын
The bass was on par with the au2200, but the au101 bass has more punch and body a much better souning amp than the 2900. I still have the 101 in my collection its a good little amp. My 2900 was not that great at all, I sold it straight away, could be there was something a miss with it, but talking to a few others that I take notice of they said its one to pass by.

Hi Michael Yates. I'm Fred. I hope that you are able to help me. I own a Sansui AU 2200, and I'm having difficulty finding the right speaker, I have a pair of Crewing Vega SL-5M 125 watts @ 8ohms ran those with the Sansui AU and I found that the sound was quite strained, was unable to hear the High's Vocal Etc. So I purchased a pair of Yamaha NX430P which they are 30 watts nominal and 100 watts max, and I tried these with the Sansui AU2200 and still not to able to hear, again the sound is quite strained?? So I switched Receiver and tried a Sherwood RX4103 which is 105 watts per channel with the Cerwin Vega SL-5M and still the sound was quite strained again( even with the Cerwin Vega SL-5M) runnings a 125 watts???. I have spent about $200.00 dollars on speaker cables, and can't seem to figure out why I can get any clear results with Both The Sansui AU2200 and with the Sherwood RX4103, I hope that you can help. Cheers. Tony

Hi Tony, I do not know either of the speakers you mention, but I can see they both have a Sensitivity of 85db and this is probably not helping here. I would look for a pair of speakers of around 90db or more if possible.. This will help this low wattage amp breath. Maybe look for a vintage old pair of speakers. I dont know any USA makes but here in the UK I can recommend a pair of 2nd hand wharfedale diamond 3 speakers, I know they are rated at 86db and I said around 90db or more, but these did work well with this amp when I had the AU2200, other than them then again look for a pair around 90db. I only used QED79 speaker cable and get some really good results using that. Please let me know how you get on

Good review, I seem to remember that these 'chip amps' varied greatly depending on the quality of the amp modules etc.. Many years ago I had a cheapo Tensai chip amp, it was awful...
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 3 жыл бұрын
Some companies would produce them in house, ie Sony, Sanyo. But there is a lot of cheap and inferior ones made in china. Also would make quite a difference the value and quality of components used around the chip.

Sorry its late but i wanted to ask, what do you think it is about the 2200 and other amps of quality that allows spatial cues and depth to be reproduced well? I hear folks say, this dac has amazing stage and depth, this speaker headphone iem amp the have great soundstage and depth like theyre in the room, separation, realness, but what is it in amplifiers that allow this to be rendered? I got an au101 on the way not a great deal on it but worth it i think because id like to use it to learn electronics a bit, and also itll be the thing to use while my 6060 is in for repair. 🍻
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 11 ай бұрын
I am no expert on this but I think its due to the how the circuit and parts used in the amp are arranged, for instance the crosstalk between channels, 2nd and 3rd harmonics, feedback amoung other varibles and speakers will play apart in what the human ear hears and how the brain translates it to sound, so quite complex. I will be interested in what you think of the au101 and a comaprison to the 6060.
@crodrig
@crodrig 11 ай бұрын
@@MichaelYates Interesting yeah I find it all kinda mystifying still I'm not super experienced and haven't tried much. All I've had is the 6060 until recently and I love it, but I can say that the gifted Optimus receiver running in its place is nowhere near it in quality. It's still great it works and has prologic and stuff, but I could immediately tell you know it's pretty different in low end control clarity and texture. Might be a month or two but I'll shoot you a message to compare with the au for sure!

I have not listen to this Sansui, but I have read quite a few good things about the Amp. Here is 2 links that you might want to read before purchasing audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/refurbishing-and-upgrading-the-au-d11-ii.789344/ , also here just use translate for the main comment , though this next one is on the mark 1 www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/sansui/au-d11.shtml , sorry I could not help futher
