I’m becoming addicted to watching these reviews fo some of the most fantastic acoustic instruments I have heard or seen. I had a friend who wanted to sell me his Santa Cruz Tony Rice model almost 30 years ago for $1600 and I wish I had bought it. Fantastic instruments.

I was fortunate for my wife and myself to soend about 3 hours with Richard in his shop about 6-7 years ago. I always said he would build me a custom guitar someday !

I have owned a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model for 23 years and it is a great guitar. I have played Tony's 1935 Martin D-28 several times and I like my guitar better.

I've played a couple Santa Cruz guitars. This one sounds good. If it's the same guitar Trey Hensley set in fire, it's good.

Not sure what it is. The bracing SC uses? The dimensions ? They just sound like they are "lacking" that "something" VS a HUss & Dalton TD-R or TD-M or a Collings D2H....sounding closere to a Martin...

Whatever. It sounds great. The only issue I have is that it doesn't sound like a bango killer to me. I dont suspect that all Martin 1934 D's were. But I am as far from a Martin expert as you can possibly get, almost.

Tony purchased the guitar from the owner of Miller Liquors in California. He didn't purchase it from Clarence.

i prefer usiing a flat pick on my Martin HD28 for more resonance and sustain. This Santa Cruz definitely has louder highs and lows than my Martin. Possibly because it has a larger soundhole.
