I spent a time mid-1990s east and west of edelstein hill. GP20s,30s and 35s on freights. lots of new red and silver.

That manifest train at 1:00 looked to be pushing 70. It would be cool if they were still allowed to go that fast.

Nicolas LD I think the reason Manifest can’t go 70 is because of a Hazmat Load on board can only go 60 maybe there weren’t any hazmat on that train. It looked like vehicle part box cars

That's actually a piggyback Intermodal train with autoparts boxcars. Those can easily go 70 wherever that speed is permitted. If it were a regular manifest, 50 would be the top speed...

UP, BNSF, KCS, CN, and CP CSX and NS all allow 75 MPH provided the track can handle it, plus the locomotives are geared for it.

The Santa Fe in the early 90's had a saying when it came to power. If it can run it can go. Why even with the massive orders of new power they were still power short at times especially during peak season for UPS hotspots. It was nothing to see some of the earliest 2nd Generation power leading hot intermodals all the time. You see between Chicago and KC there is only 1 grade that is over 1 percent on the line that is 5 miles at Edelstein hill just outside of Chili. Then near Marcoline MO there is a .8 percent grade but the rest is pretty under .5 or less in grade and they overpowered stuff to the point it was stupid at times. Trains like 199 198 and the counterparts had 4 HP a ton or more. The QNYLA its counterpart had 3 even the stacks had at least 2 HP a ton. It wasn't give them barely enough to get over the road in horses it was see how fast they could go.
