This is a great family game, perfect for Christmas. My 7 and 8 year olds were able to play no problem on standard ruleset…my 7 year old went all in on reindeers lol

My family loves this game. It's Christmas in a box and brings everyone together for a great board game. It can also be played by literally anyone with the standard game. Everything looks beautiful.

I own this game and have already played it multiple times with my step kids and wife. We all love it. We've only played the standard side thus far but I really want to try the advanced.

I have the original version. Although the art looks better here, I miss the plastic and cookies. Plus, going to school. Thanks for showing this version though. I’m glad people are discovering this game again.

Actually, it looks like all three elves are different. Of the two that look similar, one looks chubbier, so I think it's just an aesthetic thing to make play more fun. A festive game. Thanks for the playthrough!

They are different for the advanced play where each elf can develop skills to make their material working more productive. Of course you can just use the column but having them different helps.

Im really surprised you guys didn't play the advanced version. The standard version you played is really so little kids can play too.

Nice playthru. Very different from first edition, which is closer to the advanced version. No reindeer cards in the original, and no tree with ornaments on any boards in the original. Reindeer were the classic 12 printed in stables on the board. Each reindeer had cookie tokens of 1,2, or 3 points on them added to them at the end of each round. When you cared for a reindeer, you collected all its cookies and took its bonus (gain a specific material, gain a toy to work on, gain 2 coal, gain a temporary worker in black, or gain the first player marker). There was also plastic materials that you could mass produce (7 with one worker), but reduced the point value of most toys (except legos that need 10 plastic) the more you substituted them in. Every player also starts with 4 upgradable workers instead of 3. Most places only gain you 1 or 2 material, except with upgraded elves. Since no ornaments, only completed toys contribute to cheer. Board and point track were a bit more colorful. The biggest thing I wish was better on this new version is the score markers. I wish they were at least wood cubes or disks. Wish someone would at least make an upgrade for them, unless Elf Creek does in an expansion.

I’ve watched this 3 times love the idea of this game, I even did something I never do I went and ordered one directly from the creator’s website cost me way more than I normally pay for a board game but since it will be the last game I buy for at least 3 years I figure might as well make it a good one, also hey Lincoln, I see u got one of the special edition ones could u tell me what number? Also do u think u could play this again for ur next video but play the reverse side!?!?!?! 😁😁😁😁

There's actually 3 shapes of meeple. They are used in the advanced game, on the other side of the board.

Some copies did have issues with their silver elves. In my case all three were the same

I heard that in a 2-3p game (advanced) players each have three elves and one helper (the one character that doesn't "match" the other elves). Do you only play with two elves and one helper when playing the basic game? Thanks for the playthrough. Game looks fun.

Thanks for another great video! I have a question for you: Why do you have multiple copies of Wyatt Earp in the background? I've seen that Lincoln rated it a 10 on BGG (that's why I bought it years ago), but are you collecting more because it's out of print, or some other reason? Just curious.

@@boardgamegeek On the strength of this comment, I bought a copy of Wyatt Earp. (Lincoln and I seem to have similar tastes in games) I've played almost nothing else for the last month! It's FANTASTIC. Oh, and Santa's Workshop is good, too!

I've watched the MvM and Before You Play videos and each were 2p advanced games, so this 3p standard game was nice to see. Curious if playing with four/five players on the advanced side would be too tight given there are only two spaces for each of the areas? Yes three more total turns, but you could get shut out from the material you need and then not complete a toy for two days and take less points just going to the tree, or really not being able to get your reindeer set. I'll need to rewatch one of the advanced plays and see how many times during the course of the game each player went to the coal mine becuase if it was three times, then those three extra days on the advanced side are soley for that and that is a little bit of a bummer b/c getting coal lets you do the other actions but they in themselves are wasted turns. I'm thinking I would play the standard side, with advanced reindeer, make the ornament area spots like the advanced side (gain control of start player, and +1vp), and play nine rounds.

Minor edit, going three times to the mine wouldn't negate three entire days b/c you have more than one worker. But I also rewatched the Before You Play 2p game. You get a fourth worker but each player visited the mine 5 times, with one going a sixth, which means essentially one entire day is sending all of your workers out for coal and then one worker getting coal on the second day. So two extra days in the advanced version, is that worth the hassle of coal, idk. In the advanced game you have those spots on your elf's which when completed get you 4vp, and the two cart spaces removed get 4vp, and there are some improvements above the cart which are 4vp each when cleared, and both players did all of them so are those points, equivalent to the single points you get in the standard game when going to an area first and people get help after you, maybe.

It looks like a Euro game. Are there many differences in Christmas traditions in Germany that could make it confusing to play? I don't know, maybe someone here could tell us.... 🙏

@@flickingbollocks5542 - well, I guess the biggest difference is that Santa brings the presents on the 24th, on the actual birthday and not on the 25th. Santa or as we call him Weihnachtsmann has his little helpers the elves. I think due to lots of Hollywood movies it‘s kinda mixed up anyway.

We create new traditions as well, wenn the kids were little we watched Bob the Builders Christmas Movie and now they want to watch it every year and they are 17 and 12 by now 😆 it‘s the one were Elton John performs at the end his Crocodile Rock and Bobs brother Tom comes home from the Northpole. We love it 🥰 It‘s the good old stop motion Bob 😍

You aren’t collecting the reindeer, you are caring for them. Each reindeer will only appear in each 3day section once so it’s been cared for and no one needs to or will get credit for it. But you all are playing the simple version so non of that makes sense
