Fish curry is a popular dish made with fish cooked in a spicy and tangy curry sauce. It is a common dish in many coastal regions around the world, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia. The ingredients and preparation methods may vary depending on the region and the type of fish used.
Here's a recipe for a basic fish curry:
Ingredients:
500g fish fillets, cut into chunks
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp ginger, grated
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp chili powder
400ml can of coconut milk
2 tomatoes, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh coriander for garnish
Instructions:
Heat the oil in a large saucepan or a wok over medium-high heat.
Add the onion and cook until soft and translucent.
Add the garlic and ginger and cook for another minute.
Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder and cook for 30 seconds or until fragrant.
Add the coconut milk and bring to a simmer.
Add the tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes.
Add the fish chunks and simmer gently until the fish is cooked through, about 10 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander and with rice or bread on the side.
Note: You can use any firm, white fish for this recipe, such as cod, haddock, tilapia, or sea bass. You can also add vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or bell peppers for a more hearty dish. Adjust the amount of chili powder according to your taste preference.
