I wore my "Festival" Albums out, I think I bought about 4 versions of the LPs. All purpose album, I would play, Carnaval, Let the Children Play and Jugando to get into a good mood, I used to record "Give me Love" and "The River" and make cassettes (we used to call creepers) for the girls I really liked in high school, add those songs to Malo's Suavecito on a cassette, next thing you know I had a new girlfriend. "Try Little Harder" from Side 2 I still play when working out on weights. "Revelations" for sipping tequila (Casa Noble) and reflecting on life and finding my spiritual center, and Maria Caracoles, I used to jam out to when my mother would yell at me to clean up my room. Love Festival!

I agree with the comments below, this is a superb and almost over looked album, However these tracks are even better realised on the stunning live double Moonflower from 1977. That said to be honest any Santana album from the early 70's right up to Marathon is up there with the best of them. I still spin my original vinyl copies often even today. Thanks mum and dad for forcing me to listen to Santana back then!

I've never heard anyone play like he does in this song. Especially in Jugando at about 6:36, ive never heard anyone else with a sound like that. Does anyone else know of something like that? I wanna hear more songs like this.
@jimraw110 жыл бұрын
Probably the closest person I can think of that has a similar sound at times is Al di Meola, a guitar giant in his own right. Listen to his "Race with Devil on Spanish Highway" - definitely a very Santanaesque sound. I will say he is more of a Jazz fusion stylist (although he can play anything) - and he does vary his sound.
@timjenkins708210 жыл бұрын
around 6:36 it's actually keyboardist Tom Coster, so that's maybe why you haven't heard a guitar player sound like that. The recommendation of Al DiMeola above is a good one though, the album "Elegant Gypsy" is the place most people start which contains the song jimraw1 refers to above.
@RocknJazzer9 жыл бұрын
@114680318990593989999 That's a synthesizer...probably either a 70s Minimoog or Arp Odyssey. Tom Coster used both that year. If you like that sound, just get into 70s jazz fusion or progressive rock. Albums by George Duke, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea's Return to Forever group, YES and ELP (emerson lake & palmer) albums. Tons of moog and arp solos on those. Early to mid 70s albums are best...late 70s albums got more watered down and disco-ish with less soloing.
@Chimansam9 жыл бұрын
+Reed McLaughlin Try Emerson Lake and Palmer "Tarkis" the Moog Synthesizer king Kieth Emerson really florish, but also look up Rachel Flowers (13 year old blind girl) version of of Tarkis on Emersons Moog Synthesizer its amazing.
