Each time I see this performance, I cry because it reminds me of how, for a brief time way back, we actually had a true moment of peaceful celebration through the most amazing music and musicianship that we just can't find today anymore. Even the best musicians today can't do this because there's just too many other obstacles in their way. Not organic like this was. From the heart, soul and guts...no gimmicks, no recording tricks, no fakery. Just straight up great, amazing, soul-stirring music. The crowd too! Look at how it was all about the moment, the music, and the joy. Yes, I cry, especially now. Joy and peace and love seem like things we aspired to and has now eluded us. Thanks, Jayvee, for bringing us a few moments of joy through your reaction. Much needed!

Yep, and you can really see the difference between this original, peaceful, non-commercial Woodstock and the 1990s Woodstock, which was violent, aggressive, and very, very commercial, with hawking of products all over the place. Society today bears more in common with that aggressive, violent, 1990s Woodstock than with the original 1969 Woodstock, of which I see no trace today.

We're losing all organic movements - in business, entrepreneurship and tiny biz, in the green or ecological movement, in the homesteading or back to the land movement. We're all being slowly squeezed into the renter - city dweller - corporate consumer mode. These kids had it right, and I feel the only hope for us is to throw out our phones, buy land together and follow in their footsteps. Small, local communities are the wave of the future if we're going to have one.

Carlos Santana is an excellent and gifted guitarist. But he doesn't fit into the category of the greatest of all time , doesn't even come close. One must not let personal likes and taste guide you in a statement and decision like that. Way better than him are Jeff Beck, Jim McCarty, Roy Clark to be sure, Joe Walsh, Glen Campbell, Duane Allman, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton to name a few.

@@RobtJude The bands that the movie producers chose for the film (documentary almost) all became stars, including Melanie, who honestly wasn't very good. Many bands that were there were left out of the movie. Blood, Sweat, and Tears, being mostly former jazz musicians asked not to be in the movie as they were out of tune for that performance (hard to keep wind instruments in tune outside)and although they became a big deal, they could have become a bigger deal if they had been in the movie. There is a woodstock album (several dvds) which has all of the musical performances, I think. I have it, there is some great stuff on it, and some not so great stuff. Santana had been the "house band" at the Fillmore West and the owner, Bill Graham got them the gig at Woodstock. They were relatively unknown at the time. This performance (and being in the movie) was their break-out point. Carlos Santana (guitar player) said he was trippin' balls on mescaline when they ended up being put on stage early. He said the neck of his guitar turned into a large, writhing snake while he was playing and that he was just praying to God not to f*ck things up.

Thanx a whole bunch for this! I have seen this many, many times. I saw this on TV right after this performance at the age of 13. I have loved Carlos ever since. He is an Icon in many ways. I am thrilled for you, that u got to finally check this out! I am so proud that all this great music we grew up with lasted. We thought it would! I had that argument with her for 30 plus yrs. It finally ended when she was 70, caught tapping her foot and singing Beatles songs while seated in my van, me driving. She finally couldn't deny it! Also, my husband and I were fortunate the summer of 2000 when we got to seat directly in front of this band in Chicago on the "Supernatural" tour. Carlos actually played to me for a very long time that nite, eye to eye sometimes. Just incredible. The whole band was interactive and tried to pull u right in if u appeared receptive. And we were. What a slice of cherished memory this is! I am 65 now and really chronically ill. I am so grateful that we made so many unique memories that I draw from daily. Live life to the fullest. Now I can enjoy the sounds of various birds on my porch or ponder the family dynamics of 16 cats that live outdoors by the house. Time is precious, every little simple thing might be really special too. Peace and enjoy the music...good is good no matter when or what genre.
