Yeah that's the Mission District and East Bay Grease serving up some party funk. Chester was so tight. And it was cool to see David Garibaldi again--my favorite TOP drummer. Thanks.

Chester is the Man! I took my Live and In Living Color album to a Santana concert and when he was setting up the keyboards I ran to the stage and asked if he would sign it for me. He looks at it, shaking his head with a smile and signs it! One of my most treasured memories. Thanks CT, miss you with the Tower.

What makes them so good is the same reason The Santana Bands are always first rate. These are all highly skilled, competent, and well seasoned pros. Together the egos are put to aside and the focus is on making musical magic.

Great to see these great Bay Area musicians jam together in this 2006 concert. Oakland’s Tower Of Power (TOP) who originated the East Bay Grease sound, joined here by San Francisco’s Carlos Santana and super-keyboardist Chester Thompson who played for both Santana and TOP. This concert was a real treat for all old-school lovers of that 70s era heavy horn/percussion section bands that played fusion of funk/rock/soul/Latin/jazz/blues music-including WAR, Chicago, EWF, Blood-Sweat&Tears, and others.
@MrCherryJuice13 жыл бұрын
For all the comments and critiques here, come on! I'm no Carlos fan, but here he's a guest... he's fitting into their thing. The real stars though are the band! Still blistering hot after all these years. Vocalist Larry Braggs was born to be in TOP. And great to see organist Chester Thompson (long with Santana), back where he started. Carlos knows where he stands is the grand scheme of things, I don't think he needs anyone judging him.

Maybe this is the best thing in our world: you have a huge variety of musicians, with different styles, techniques and everything. You don't need to like them all, you just need to respect them. It doesn't even matter if Santana is the most technical guitar player, his music just sounds good to me.

It's the ones who don't understand the Funk, the power that fuels this band. If you don't like our band with grooves so sweet then open the door baby and move your ass on down the street. Real music is jamming and can't be wrong so if you don't dig our funk change the radio station to find you a new song. Your hate for a classic, of funk, of soul, don't make a damn bit of a difference let the truth be told!

If you're not entertained by Santana, I suggest you take the time to listen to a wide selection of his work, eg. Oya Como Va, Evil ways, Black magic woman, She's not there, etc. If you're still not enjoying yourself, My guess is that you've never cared much for Marijuana. My advice would be to get some good friends round your place, get some bean bags, stock up on munchies and Absinth, then smoke a couple of joints and RELAX.

Very well stated! People like us who play time, use Garibaldi and Prestia as the yardstick of measurement. They simply lay down the groove better than any! Whether it be Jazz Alley in Seattle or some outdoor venue,they are always beyond fun! The groove reighs supreme! It is infectus beyond anything I know of not to forget Earth Wind and Fire. I am a bass player and Rocko Prestia has influenced me more than all the masters of bass! Carlos is still cool!

That's great that you know you're music. I already respect you for your accomplishments at Berkley. That truly shows that you take music seriously, and that you understand it at the highest level. But being a musical genius, doesn't mean you're going to always have better taste than someone else. True Story: I know a Berkley graduate who likes the Jonas Brothers. I agree with most of what you're saying, but Santana is amazing, and deserves to play with Tower of Power.

it's not what Carlos plays, it's what guitar tone he mastered over those years...a signature tone that not so many guitarists have, most guitarists sounds the same, but the notes that carlos plays,it touches you in side the matter what a professional jazz player you are!!!So have some respect for the masters, Hendrix (legend)played many times with a out of tune guitar with some nonsense scales some times!!Let me see what you can say about him!!
