... what I just love: it is: Santana (Carlos Santana) ... but in all the years he is not 'the frontman' ... everybody in the band is 'welcome to join the party' ... something like that doesn't happen too often ... ...

Grahame Lear -- The Great! Phenomenal post -- thanks! I love this band set-up: Lear, Margen and the Gorillas! I saw these guys about 20x in the late seventies/early eighties. They would always drop your jaw in awe!

I got to meet Graham, Orestes Vilato and Armando Peraza in the the most amazing stroke of luck in 1987 before a show I had tickets for. Long story short , I got to watch the band do a sound check in an empty acoustically perfect amphitheater. The hair on my neck was standing up. It helps to be a drummer.

The greatest rock bass solo in history....magnificent...easily the best bassist to grace the ranks of Santana..
@louise_rose11 ай бұрын
Oh yes, an epic moment of funky lyricism (and an early signature use of slap bass)! Lovely interplay with the organ. drums and percussion too, of course...This is one of those moments where everything falls into place.

@@louise_rose Hi LOUIse, you are obviously a Santana fan like me. Have you seen them live and do you have afavourite song/album?
@louise_rose11 ай бұрын
@@blairmacewancrosbie8646 Hello - no, I haven't seen them live in person...seen several great concert tapes/films with them though, for example Sacred Fire (Mexico, 1992) and some of the concert footage here at YT, They're a phenomenal band, both musically and emotionally, across several decades. One of my favourite live documents with Carlos is the Santana/Wayne Shorter Band filmed in Montreux in the summer of 1988 - the band being a mixture of the earlier bandmates of those two leading guys. Wonderful gig with a Latin jazz/progressive fusion/r'n'b flavour and extraordinary musicianship. I'm also a big fan of Yes, 1970s Genesis and Pink Floyd, Miles Davis (friend of Carlos) - and of course Weather Report. I like most of their 1970s work and much after that, can't pick out any favourites really. :)
