For those who don't like this performance just remember that live music is a much different thing from the hours and hours they spend in the studio, cutting and mixing and editing on take after take.
@susannebender-constantino76926 жыл бұрын
Debby Berg ~ I think it was just fine. Guys (or girls) can’t sing like that live today. They need all the mixing, editing and the likes of all the technology they use today. They can’t pull off live like real musicians did back in the day.

Yeah well I heard Puckett say nobody would touch a cover of his songs...apparently, not even Gary Puckett can cover his own studio version of this song, it's impeccable. (EDIT) Jerry Vale is the only guy I know that attempted a cover, and it was horrible. Vale was a great singer but...

@@Italianlad69 I don't know whether Gary Puckett was singing live in this show (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4nYpaShoKaom9E)? If he did, he did a good cover back then. The power of his voice had aged these years and his singing style was changed. That's why it sounds so different.

@@boojaboo7507 he’s still such a talented artist and I love this rendition .

I believe this was 1985. Possibly recorded at The Hop in Fountain Valley, CA. That's when Jeff Bristol and the others were playing with him. As far as the comment about wondering if the band was actually playing and plugged in. Yes they always were. Gary still stays busy with shows worldwide and performs a great show.

Gary might have sang the live versions a little differently than that of the original recordings and in the version his voice is more mature but either way Gary has a strong sexy voice that is still incredible. Whether young or older, the man is always handsome.

Now here he hasn't lost his voice but as he aged he has lost some of the depth he could always get to us with by singing deeper. But he is still out there singing and giving it his all. I just think he should have quit when he turned 65 or so. I like the newer version....it has some pep and vitality to it.

That drummer is giving me a heart attack because he's a half-beat slow, but Gary's voice overcomes any deficits. Looks like it's Gary's brother (or son?)

Too bad he felt the need to change the key, though that's sometimes understandable as voices "mature". What's more unfortunate is his different phrasing.

@The2007outlaws11 жыл бұрын
Dreadful, he's obviously lost the voice that recorded the original. This is several semi-tones lower, losing all the dynamics of the record, so he hams it up as cover. Dreadful!
