Very nice work. Question: is the open grain left by the 60 grit paper to scale? To my eye, it seems a finer grit at the end might have removed some fur. Just a light touch with perhaps steel wool?

Just the 60 grit, but keep in mind that the sanding is done with the wood only dry to the touch, but not fully dry

Nice work! Keep it going pls. Some inspiration for a next build. Could you explain what the bleaching of the hull is for? Thx
@ModelShips4 жыл бұрын
I bleach all the dark woods of the kit, this is done to have light woods to stain for the aged look, the stains wouldn't look the same if i left the wood dark, so it was either bleaching the wood, or buying lighter wood and not using the kit wood The wood on the bottom part of the hull was bleached, but bleaching only lightens a layer of the wood, so after planking the hull, the sanding needed exposed dark wood, so i bleach the hull completly after sanding, to remove the darker spots exposed

Shouldn't the planking be covered with second planking with thin planks?
@ModelShips4 жыл бұрын
Some kits have second planking, mostly because it's more forgiving and easier to hide the mistakes of the 1st planking, not all kits have that second one

In later videos the weathering base has been dark oak stain. Any reason why you choose vinegar/steel wool, and alcohol/india ink base coats?
@ModelShips3 жыл бұрын
It's mostly about what shade will show through the paint chipping, I wanted a different tone on the upper part of the hull, for the smaller pieces I went with dark oak stain, it's easier and if I went with the other I would have to bleach all the darker woods, and the difference isn't worth all the trouble

Thank you...i am following your build and have learned so much. I wish you would do Model Shipways Constitution next... It is challenging to say the least. I am building it as a weathered ship following your examples. Thanks for the great tutorials

what is the product you put on the ship called
@ModelShips5 жыл бұрын
Wich one are you refering to? There's a solution made from solving steel wool on vinegar, there's another one made from indian ink on isopropilic alchool, and a dark oak stain from the brand LAKEONE, since you are portuguese, you can find it on Leroy Merlin.

Hi Great Job, What king of blade holder do you use ? i thing is very comfy ?
@ModelShips5 жыл бұрын
It's just some random hobby blade, if i remeber correctly it's from gear best, it's more confortable than scalple handles for any job that requires more pressure
