I was at this church YEARS ago!!! We stayed nearby at the base of the hill (I forget the name of the place, but Rula was the owner - she was the sweetest woman!) We hiked up to the church and there happened to be a festival, it was packed! No one there spoke English but they fed us a meal. We loved the experience. It was magical.

Correct Gabe! Usually the churches are open but in more busy islands they would find tourist sleeping inside them...So they had to lock them during certain hours.

Perisa is awesome place in Santorini. For people who love swimming it's much better place to stay than Fira Beach and water are brilliant. You pick very nice destination Gabriel, you have great taste!

If you visit Samos town stay a night in the Monastry that has been converted to a place to sleep for travellers. It is in the center of the city. It is basic but I am shure you will like it. Do not forget the old part of the city wich is at the top. Here they serve you the real food for a good price.

The remnants of the eruption of the volcano the 17th century BC in Santorini are found in Akrotiri (archeological sight) , but I haven't been there.

That's typical of many of the Greek islands. However I'm now on the island of Samos and there are a lot of trees here. Videos from here coming soon.

Most Cyclades and the south-west aegean islands are kind of dry but the Dodecanese and the Ionian islands are greener e.g. Naxos, Andros, Thassos, Skiathos, Paxos, Corfu, Zakynthos (etc) have more variety

There's no way to know exactly. It will depend on which part of Greece as well as the conditions at the time. It will be very variable at that time, could be warm and sunny or could be stormy and raining.

The stone tablet is a dedication to Virgin Mary by a female believer (Martha - ΜΑΡΘΑ). Every Church is generally dedicated to a Saint or Virgin Mary or Christ and is getting a name that way. In order to distinct Churches that are dedicated to same Saint or Virgin Mary or Christ an identifier is added. That identifier many times has geographic character. For example 'Παναγία της Τήνου΄ means the well known Church of Virgin Mary at Tinos (island). The Church close to stone tablet is dedicated to Virgin Mary(aka ΠΑΝΑΓΙΑ) KATEFIANI (ΚΑΤΕΦΙΑΝΗ). Locals are visiting the Church on Greek Easter and receive communion. A lot of the little churches and chapels in Greece are in very random, remote locations that are tough to get to. I still haven't figured out exactly why but looks like Bas Z explained that one at least.

My budget is around $100 a day now. Last time I was on Santorini two years ago my budget was $30 a day. That's a lot tougher to stick to, but it can be done. I had a hostel at Perissa beach that time for just $8 a night.
