Getting this boulder out of where a foundation dig is going, the 317 couldn't move it so we brought in a hammer!

Hi Steve. I enjoy your videos because you are a straight shooter. Your not hyping yourself up or tearing people down, except where needed. Without ever using one or even seeing one on the job, it seemed to me like there should be more of a point on the bit of the hammer. I'm obviously not talking a point like you'd find on a jackhammer. Is what you used typical of those hammers? I realize it's probably a dumb question, cuz you would have talked about it. Every once in a while I can't stop myself from the captain obvious questions. Lol Those were the biggest rocks I've ever seen on a job, yikes. I guess the area has to make up for the easy digging sand. Lol You and your son be blessed. Ed from Chicago 🙂

A sharp point wouldn’t last. As you hammer, it wears away… the chisel is a replaceable part. It will have a rounded point because you tilt the hammer as you use it… but not a sharp one.
@DirtBrute
@DirtBrute Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ed. The hammers all start out with a point but within an hour or so they become rounded. Truth is that hammer was too small for granite but the size I know we need and have used before goes on a much bigger excavator. Unfortunately that requires a big low bed and a lot of area to get it in. If we could get in the jobsite with one it probably would’ve cracked that rock in half with a couple smacks. Thanks for watching

@@DirtBrute Thanks steve. I thought it should look different. To me it just looked like a big blunt end. Probably just appeared that way to me. Thanks sassafras. I was a plumber for 30 yrs, mostly commercial. Small company but good for me. That meant I usually saw jobs from the underground all the way thru finish trim. New buildings and remodels. I had to stop not too long ago. At 56yrs old I got diagnosed with Cancer. Anyway, I think I have chemo brain because I couldn't come up with the word chisel last night when I posted. it's been happening more lately. Been on chemo about 11 months now. I like your channel sassafras, I will have to go and check though, to see if I'm still subbed. I was dropped from a number of channels. Steve here was one of them I didn't get notifications of. This cancer sucks, not only because it is hard on my family, but I really enjoyed working, and working hard. That was nother reason i liked working for a small company, I was a working foreman. Boy, I've been getting diariah of the finger lately. Take care Ed from Chicago 🙂

next time I recommend you rent a hand held concrete wet saw too, cut two parallel lines a little wider than a brick, then hammer it out, then repeat as need into smaller and smaller pieces! Or if you have a drilling service that can drill holes in lines to weaken the rock and then hammer on it.
