I honestly don't think the decline of Cove's voice was (solely) due to smoking, like many people seem to believe. There are some pretty phenomenal smoking singers who have/had powerful, smooth voices even into older age (Bowie comes to mind). What happened with Cove is that he just stopped caring about doing warmups, maintaining his voice, and especially USING PROPER TECHNIQUE. You can see in his earlier shows how he supports his vocals using his diaphragm (smoking doesn't affect your diaphragm muscle), keeps his neck loose/relaxed, and puts his whole body into the emotion he's expressing. Gradually, these things started slipping. In these later performances, his diaphragm is weak and unsupported, his neck is strained almost constantly, his whole body is limp and he's just not giving anywhere near 100%. The more he strained and abused his voice by skipping warmups and using bad technique, the harder it became for him to hit those beautiful high notes we loved him for. Sadly, the longer you use bad technique, the harder it is to re-train yourself to do it right.

This is on point. Most people wouldn't get this because they dont sing
@JamesYusof5 жыл бұрын
A year late, but yes I strongly agree. If you see his performance in the following vid ''Saosin - Seven Years (Acoustic) -- Nov 8, 09 -- Pacsun, San Francisco'', his voice is clearer, definitely more ''full'' (such a tone can only be achieved by singing via the diaphragm) and his pitch is more stable. In this vid, he's struggling in the low-mid ranges. You can hear a lot of phlegm even from the start, which compromises pitch and tonal quality. Whether this is due to him not warming up or just his voice wearing out, we'll never know.
@willfinsterbusch74305 жыл бұрын
I think part of it was just how stressed and worn out he became, it was just a bad time in his life. But I do think you have a point. I’ll admit his voice sounds extremely worn out
@modelotime36084 жыл бұрын
Its because he didn't originally sing the song, anthony green with the vocolist for saosin and after that album he went to circa survive
@Rvu724 жыл бұрын
@@modelotime3608 dude...do you even knew how cove got chosen to replace green?cove basically gave the band saosin record but already with his voice, green himself acknowledged that cove will be the one to replace him. He actually reached anthony green vocal level somehow...

Taking on seven years the holy ghost had left alone Test my arms, kick like crazy And I've been trying way to long Only if he could push his way off to fight you I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm not sure Getting off my chest The story ends I would find a way without you (Tell him his eyes see too clear) That mistake was gold I know that without you Its something that I could never do That was why staple the eyes and Seven dates for me to sell machines And tear on Seven years you assured me That Id be fine if I complied Only push the way off to fight you I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm not sure Getting my chest the story now ends I would find a way without you (Tell him his eyes see too clear) Don't treat me I'm to blame Don't treat me like I ever accused you
