The interesting thing its somewhat in the same way as a boxing gloves they protect the hands from damage while therefore increasing the power you are able to punch without damaging your hand but unlike a boxing glove its actually loaded with weight therefore making them quite a bit more lethal than if your simply wearing a boxing glove.

Boxing gloves are heavy too but the mass isn’t concentrated into a small area.

Hatch SP100's are high quality. One of the small sap and blackjack makers also makes sap gloves but I don't remember who. That would probably be higher quality than Chinese stuff.

The old powdered lead was used to be sold up till tge 90s now all they have is steel shot ones .

I was at a nightclub in Belfast in the 90’s. An average sized guy with sap gloves on knocked out at least 2 dozen people in the club, starting with the bouncers who tried to remove him for some reason. The dude went outside and continued to knock people out. Police arrived and he knocked several of them out as well. Cops and bystanders finally piled on top of him and overpowered him. It was the first time I’d ever heard of these gloves. Haven’t thought about them until just now when I saw this video. Thanks for the super interesting content!

Regarding 2:56, in some jurisdictions saps are forbidden. On the other hand, a person grasping a roll of 40 quarter dollars in a closed fist has the additional mass of half a pound.

@@ObjectHistory I wouldn't imagine a slightly heavier hand , ( which could slow my punch a bit ) would be what I'd want to use a roll of quarters for. I thought the idea was to have something reinforcing your curled fingers, making them more rigid, allowing less flexing and stress to the fingers.

I wore a pair at My last job that was lined with Kevlar because I worked with broken glass and they held up extremely well. Around 2 years before the Kevlar tore through in some spots and they became useless.

I have modern sap gloves with Kevlar on the palm and lead shot filed Knuckles and the top of the fingers they pack a hell of a punch but are much thicker than the ones you have there. You can tell mine have something going on due to the thickness of the Knuckles and fingers... A lot of doorman/bouncers wear them where I live ... With Knuckle duster now illigal in the UK I see a lot more people with hard-kunckled motorbike style gloves and sap gloves especially with doormen/bouncer and fighting men

These are in some ways quite similar brass knuckles but in someways there quite a bit different for instance the big differences between brass knuckles and sap gloves is brass knuckle rely on doing damage by surround the knuckles with a hard object to protect the hand as well as concentrating impact into smaller points (this tends to cause them to create external damage such as cuts as well as breaking bones) However sap gloves mainly just increase the weight of the hand therefore. creating a stronger punch in addition to providing cushion for the fist like a boxing glove.unlike brass knuckles sap gloves tend to create more internal damage than external damage.sap gloves and brass knuckles are used the sameway but how they cause damage is quite a bit different.

If you are a trianed striker then you can throw a proper Karate or Boxing style punch with sap gloves without injuring yourself where as with brass knuckles you have to change the way you punch.

@@wesleydaub8002 this is very important to note. You have to basically use a tiger claw or “long fist” with brass knuckles which as a kick boxer is completely foreign to me and I can only imagine myself breaking my hand that way.

My grandfather worked in the 20s and 30s in the Glasgow courts looking after the lawyers as well as a sap he had newspapers stuffed down his socks a cotton scarf around his neck heavy boots and a vest made out of tightly woven cotton a hard bastard by all accounts

I can (only) imagine. And they can't get knocked out of your hand, etc. And they're a surprise to boot, unlike knucks or whatever. Lot of upside.
