I do hope that the tech tree will be a tree, and not a line =P. In these kinds of games, I like to develop a 'culture' if you will, that has a unique way of approaching things/making things, and I like to do this usually be going for certain technologies, and ignoring others. Unfortunately, a LOT of games don't allow for this, instead going for the streamlined, linear progression (Often super Euro-centric =P). So I'd love to see a non-linear tech-tree, so that people can develop their tribe/civilisation in a whole manner of ways, be it nomadic, Inca like (Only stone tools, no wheels, but still impressive architecture), or just, indeed, European-like (Or any other culture-like =P)
@brackenscorner22925 жыл бұрын

Yes. I really want this to basically be Civilization, but with building, survival, and physics. I love the big world, and I want to eventually 'grow into' it as we develop down the tech tree and get more advanced and unlock airplanes and rockets. I love how the early game of Civ handles the tech tree by allowing you to focus on religion, war, science, culture, farming, etc. I really want this to be present in this game too.
@cmr21535 жыл бұрын
or generally flexible. i mean rome, the greeks, Han-china, The maurian empire, The HRE, Wessex in the 600s where all in the Iron Age. The tech tree then should make it possible to turn from foragers to basic middleamerican corn farmers with obsidian spears to bronze age middle eastern style people with chariots to vikings with chinese style buildings fighting in a hellenic phalanx whlist wearing north american tribal headdresses. that would give soo much opportunity for customisability and roleplay on huge multiplayer servers. essentially have tech for all sorts of aspects. need better housing? invent multilevel buildings. some neighbouring tribe bothers you with their peasants raiding your fields? invent a tight semi trained levy formation and shields to stomp them with cohesion you're playing like japanese? with katanas shields are unheard of and formations are somewhat loose? better change up before some guys in a shieldwall come along. maybe invent a sarissa. or a pilum whatever you want right? I don't get hyped for games but this one has a ton of potential.
@MyriadSkies5 жыл бұрын
Well, we don't want it to be too much work for Dave =P. But having different approaches available would be neat. It's kind of already in the game actually! What material is near you, that's what you can build stuff out of. I LOVE the fact that what branches you use, reflects what your buildings look like (If you live in a beech forest, you'll have white-stick everything, whereas an oak forest will give you brown, which is a subtle, but really neat thing already). And I noticed in this video that there's grass/straw and mud building materials. These systems, plus regional variety (biomes I guess? And different resources in different regions), plus a broad, non-linear tech-tree would allow people to come up with all sorts of interesting "builds" or "cultures", that indeed would add a lot to roleplaying, and making it uniquely your civilisation =). The only other game I can remember where this is truly possible, is the 4X game called "Star Ruler". It's a space game, and in this game, though the normal course of action is to conquer/colonise planets and build on them. I managed, through specific research and the building and designing of certain ships, to create a purely nomadic empire, which didn't need any planets at all to survive =D. I love that kind of stuff!
@cmr21535 жыл бұрын
@@MyriadSkies of course not too much. 😅 I mean our could make it so you could design all your own equipment. Just add some slides maybe for weapon length or shield size and form or warrior training and cohesion. It might very well be a few slides that are required. To do all that

You should work on a farming aspect to the game. Like small tools like shovels, axes, and hoes. Maybe adding a way to create farm plots and plant seeds. Have randomly generated plants. Some rarer than others and make it more of a search for certain resources. I’d also work on some fences and feeding troughs and a way to “catch” chickens. Maybe some sort of net or bola. Adding other animals aswell as pigs and make a way to make fertilizer out of its droppings. I think maybe adding some apples to trees to would be really interesting and have it run on a grow cycle so they start from a flower and become an Apple and fall to the ground to be collected. This game looks really cool and I hope you keep working on it! I’ll definitely buy it!

Sounds really cool. But I still wonder how the multiplayer will be. And also how creative the game will allow people to be. I think maybe going from cavemen to the industrial age is too big of a timespan for you to tackle in such a short time. And me personally I would prefer more detail and more options in each time period. So that it is possible for players to put their personal touch on how they progress through the game. The progress being too streamlined would take a lot of the magic out of it I think, especially in a multiplayer setting. I keep thinking of a mix of Minecraft where you can let your imagination run wild and multiple people will have vastly different approaches to the game, and Banished. Where there is only really one time period, but quite a lot of debt in the systems involved. I think a fully fleshed out and engaging game experience that only goes so far as exploring the bronze age for example. Would be much more interesting to then build onto, than the same amount of content in a bigger time span.
@piteoswaldo5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought about that too. I think, at least for the first release, he shouldn't include steam engines or any industrial machine. This should allow him to focus on adding more variety to the styles, and more options of buildings for earlier periods. You should add a "Shaman" class to help the people with different endeavours. They worked kind of like a way to get wiser in the group by being in close contact with the gods and were very important in ancient tribes. The shamans would be selected by their "spiritual knowledge" which could be developed by practicing ceremonies, meditating etc. Or you could also add a "Cognitive" tech tree that makes the group better at communicating with other groups etc. Lot of interesting stuff to implement that are based on real human development.

I've been following your game for quite some time know and came up with an idea which really satisfies my mind if imagining it would be in the game. I don't know why but somehow I have to think of evolution every time I see your game. Having played with evolutionary algorithms I would say that these would really fit into the game and give it a unique touch. I'm speaking of e.g. simulated evolution of plants (How they look like, how fast they grow, where they grow, ...) or learned behaviour of other tribes (rate of fearness against your tribe, shape of their bodys, where they settle, ...), .... If implemented the right way it would be amazing for the game since it not only creates a unique trait amongst other indie games (or even all games), it also helps keeping the game interesting for a longer time, because every time you play evolution can be different. It depends on the players actions and other random constraints (e.g. weather), which way it will turn out.

Fucking wow, dude. I really luke what you are all about. Seriously, my friend, you are a breath of fresh air. I do have a question: 1. How will you limit the snowball effect when people join a server late? 2. Will you have the occasional prophet show up and lead different clans in various directions? Various religions that impart different bonuses? 3. In multiple player co-op how will you create rising action i.e. tension? 4. Will you replicate major climate change such as the younger dryas event on earth? 5. Will you keep the tech tree slow so that when knowledge is gained it really matters? 6. Will this be more than a pretty mine craft? What I mean is that you didn't mention survival games when you mentioned the genre's that you are pulling concepts from. I have more questions but I don't want to over do it.
