सर जिस पे न झुक जाए उसे दर नहीं कहते हर दर पे जो झुक जाए उसे सर नहीं कहते काबे में मुसलमान को कह देते हैं काफ़िर बुत-ख़ाने में काफ़िर को भी काफ़िर नहीं कहते काबे ही में हर सज़दे को कहते है इबादत मयखाने में हर जाम को सागर नहीं कहते हर बार नए शौक़ से है अर्ज़-ए-तमन्ना सौ बार भी हम कह के मुकर्रर नही कहते (मुकर्रर = दोबारा, फिर से) मयख़ाने के अंदर भी वो कहते नहीं मयख़्वार जो बात कि मयख़ाने के बाहर नहीं कहते

I am a 72-yr Electronics Engineer from Silicon Valley of Ca (USA) now living in Mumbai. I have known Jitti & Rajendra Mehta since 1965. We 3 were close like brothers - eating from same plate & feeding one another! Wish there were videos of this era! This is a pretty composition in rag Bhairavi - originally made by Mehdibhai for another ghazal of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, “Dono Jahan teri, muhobat me haar ke”! Fits nicely into this one as well. Why not? Creativity at best! I am astonished that no credit is ever given to the poet for the “nichod” quintesscence of his heartbeat! And why the 4th ashaar is clipped in this ghazal? Jagjit Ji has no parallel in Ghazal gayaki. Mr. Gulzar has rightly called him ' Ghazal Singh'. I am a great fan of his old Ghazals, particularly the ones loaded by Soni ji. Hasil e Ghazal of ' Bismal ' Ghazal is: "Harr Bar naye shouq se hei arze tamana Sau bar bhi hum keh ke mukarrar nahi kehte" These lines are not rendered in the above manner in the song. I find words missing. To me it appears that Bismal in the couplet is trying to say that every line I say , is rendered with a renewed zest and zeal (naye shouq se hei arz e tamanna ) . He says ' even if I repeat a line hundred times, it is never the same ( Mukarrar) . ' Mukarrar' in urdu means 'once more'. If the audience likes a line of poetry, they usually request the poet to repeat it. So Bismal is saying that if I repeat the same line a hundred times, it will be always different not Mukarrar. Correct me if I am wrong.

@@MAZafer every time i have a new reason for my desire; so even after a 100 times it is not repeated Here it may mean lover seeking companionship of or meeting with his partner a 100 times but every time the reason for meeting is new so there's no repetition. In a wider sense it may also mean that humans have unending desires and they remain unsatisfied after a 100 times. The second meaning : since there's no indication if the desire has been fulfilled even once (even though requested a 100 times) there's no repetition. Here the lover is repeating the request a 100 times in a 100 different ways but the request isn't fulfilled once. I have tried my best but honestly I don't think I've done enough justice to the a'shaar. Hope someone can help you with a better translation.
