Sara and Luke Lamar, SVC’s Education and Conservation Directors, respectively, share with us one of their favorite wildlife encounters in the Swan Valley.
Since the 1990’s SVC has been monitoring the presence and distribution of rare carnivores in the Swan Valley.
For over a decade now SVC has partnered with the Southwest Crown Collaborative (SWCC) Carnivore Monitoring Project. This non-invasive work entails snow track surveys and DNA collection of target species: wolverine, lynx and fisher. (Spoiler alert - fisher were not detected and likely not present on our landscape). This work provides baseline distribution and relative abundance data of these rare carnivores.
Have these research efforts created a mild obsession of wolverines amongst staff? Yes, yes it did. But can you blame us?
