Yet the song is based on a total lie. Women do NOT want you to “say what you wanna say” or “be brave”. They want you to say what they want to hear. The song should be titled “Say what I wanna hear” or “Be brave in a way I approve of”. And it also helps significantly if you’re good looking.

THAT IS WONDERFUL. I AM 59 AND THIS SUMMED UP MY WHOLE LIFE OF A FORCE INSIDE ME, MADE ME SPEAK OUT NO MATTER WHERE OR WHEN I WITNESSED A UNJUST ACTION, GOD MADE ME SPEAK, AND I WAS ALWAYS BRAVE BECAUSE I LISTENED TO MY CREATOR WORK IN ME OUTWARDLY, BEING BRAVE! Brave Sara Bareilles You can be amazing You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug You can be the outcast Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love Or you can start speaking up Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do When they settle 'neath your skin Kept on the inside and no sunlight Sometimes a shadow wins But I wonder what would happen if you Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down By the enemy Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing Bow down to the mighty But don't run, stop holding your tongue Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live Maybe one of these days you can let the light in Show me how big your brave is Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave Innocence, your history of silence Won't do you any good Did you think it would? Let your words be anything but empty Why don't you tell them the truth? Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you See you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you Source: LyricFind

Both my mom and uncle had Covid. My uncle had it so severe the doctors didn't think he was going to live. And my mom had it mild but it was still pretty bad. My uncle and mom both survived but it was a very hard time for my whole family. Especially me, my dad, and my 2 brothers 1 whom has autism and barley understood the situation. He'd ask for my mom everyday and all I could tell him was mama wasn't home. It hurt saying that bit there was no other way for me to tell it to him. She was in hospital for a few weeks and my uncle was in hospital for a few months, both seemed like years. We cried every single night. I got to a point of depression I just stopped eating and drinking and all I could do was cry. It got to the point my dad threatened that if I didn't eat or drink anything he was going to call my grandmother and she would've told my mom so I had to force myself to eat and drink, even though it was only a few bites a day and I drank 2 bottles of water or juice a day. I'd literally only be able to eat 2 containers of Jell-O and that's it. We do this thing with my autistic brother before bed where he says everybody's names and when he'll see them the next day, wether it be in the morning or after work. My mom is a stay home mom so he is used to being with or around her most of the day. All he would do is say our names then ask for my mom and all I could tell him, as I've said, is mama isn't home and he'd look at me like he really missed her, which we all did. My mom came home Easter morning. We didn't think she'd be home by Easter so we thought we weren't going to have 1 last year. But my grandmother posted a thing on FaceBook to raise awareness and we got 12 big baskets filled to the rims of each 1 with stuff and candy from other parts of the family, friends, friends of people in my family, and friends of friends. And when my autistic brother came downstairs and saw her walk in the door, he looked at her, smiled, and said excitedly "Hi buddy!'. My mom always calls him her buddy. My uncle came home a few weeks after. It's still a very hard time for me and my family to think about and I do still cry every once in a while when I do, but sometimes I like to look back at those things and think to myself "Damn I'm a strong willed girl. I've pulled through a lot of shit.". Which is true and I still am, I've had a bunch of health complications my whole life that are only getting worse as the weeks go, from chest pains to being anemic, etc. I've been going under a lot of doctors appointments my whole like and we are continuing our quest and my journey to finding out what things are wrong, why these all these things are happening, and what needs to be done. My mom posts updates on my situations and friends, family, my boyfriend, and even people me and my mom don't even know at all have wished me well and hope I get well. And my friends, family, my boyfriend, and those people me and my mom don't know have been by my side, some just emotionally and some both emotionally and physically, every single step of the way. It's been a very long and wild ride for all of us, especially me, but I know I'm not alone and there will always be someone, anyone, there I can talk to face to face or even over the phone or through text messages if I need to because they love me and care about me and I will always understand there are people going through a hell of a lot worse things than I can even imagine and that's saying something there. This song is 1 of the few things other than the people that love and care about me that encourage me to keep pushing through and always be even at least a little bit brave, even if you're going through shit and are really scared. Which I ain't gonna lie, I was scared when my mom and uncle had Covid and I sure as hell am scared now with all the shit I'm dealing with now. But in the end, even though I'm very stressed and emotional, all that stress and emotional will be worth it in the end because I know they aren't going to stop until they find out what my problems are and a way to resolve them. All the doctors I've ever went to because of these issues have told me that a lot so yes, I'm still scared, stressed, tired because of my problems plus the fact I have ADHD and Insomnia on top of all these other problems, and emotional but it did put me at ease a little. I was brave then and all these years of going through this shit with my health and even though I'm still going through all this shit, I can be and will continue to be brave no matter how much longer I have to keep it up for.

I sang this to my kids when they were younger. Before they would ride the bus to school. They were afraid to ride it. Due to bullies and just being kiddos. So before the bus came. I'd play this and sing it to them. They are adults now. And still talk about how this song gave them courage. ( just wanted to share this) 🥰

Sometimes I think that people think I'm sad or lonely because I'm introverted. I love my life. I just HATE talking to people. It's not like talking to people is scary or anything, it's just very tiring for some reason, literally like I've just run a mile. I'm happy with my small group of close friends and that's all the socializing I need.
@injrdn017 жыл бұрын
Eric Weston I can identify completely. I am at ease doing lectures in front of a whole auditorium, but in general I also avoid people, because it drains me. I can go for weeks without a social. Just give me a bed and a book and I'm content. We aren't antisocial, just selective in our socializing:)
@pocketfriendlyshorts28677 жыл бұрын
Eric Weston I can relate,I refuse to go any get together where I have to communicate with a lot of people,I need to prepare myself,convince myself even to go to the new computer class I joined,urgh I am just too lazy to write all the problems I faced and still face due to my shyness and introvertism..but I think I am slowly getting better at communicating, because I am going to attend the teachers day program ,which I wd most definitely skip if it was 2 yrs ago,not participating tho,my severe glossophobia won't let me do that!😂 But one thing that helped me whenever I hesitate or feel shy to do anything is.. *what's the worst that wd happen if I do this?* Don't know about others but this made me do things that I normally shy out from!
@ninamarais-morkel53267 жыл бұрын
I can totally relate to what you are saying. But i dont think the message of this song is for us (introverts) to be more social. I think it's more about motivating people to be their true selves or do what they want to do and not to fear it or fear what others may think or say. And I think it can apply to many situations, e.g. coming out of the closet, or standing up to a bully, or living your passion, or whatever... be brave

I do that too sometimes, and for the same reason you did. I totally relate to your conclusion. Unfortunately, all too often what I experience is the most bratty, stuck up, small minded, humorless, presumptuous, judgmental, p!ss poor excuses for human beings ever. It’s like the same people who spout this whole “Be yourself” “Speak your truth” meme via inspirational quotes on social media, t shirts etc. react very poorly when they see their own advice applied in the real world. I encourage anyone who knows first hand what I’m talking about to go out and genuinely express their authentic self zero eff’s given at least once every couple weeks. The sharp tongue lashings and emotional blows will toughen you mentally so that you can respond more and more proactively every next time it happens. These pompous clowns deserve to have their own hypocrisy rubbed in their face much more often. If you’ve never done this before, there’s a decent chance you’ll be paralyzed with fear in the beginning. So start by approaching one person and say something along the lines of, “What’s up, you having a good time?” Then gradually build from there.

@revparravager31843 жыл бұрын
And here were are a decade later and still continuing to fight the fight for it, sadly. But as Miss Bareilles put so well, now is the time to "show how big our Brave is..." We all empower each other to let that light that is within us to shine forth and expel the darkness from the world. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness That most frightens us. We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small Does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, As children do. We were born to make manifest The glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone. *And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.*" --Marianne Williamson "*It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand In the center of the fire with me And not shrink back.*" --Oriah Mountain Dreamer

For some of us, remaining silent is more awkward and requires more bravery, when compared to sitting silently, even in a lecture.

"Brave" You can be amazing You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug You can be the outcast Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love Or you can start speaking up Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do When they settle 'neath your skin Kept on the inside and no sunlight Sometimes a shadow wins But I wonder what would happen if you Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave Everybody's been there Everybody's been stared down by the enemy Fallen for the fear And done some disappearing Bow down to the mighty Don't run, stop holding your tongue Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live Maybe one of these days you can let the light in Show me how big your brave is Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave And since your history of silence Won't do you any good Did you think it would? Let your words be anything but empty Why don't you tell them the truth? Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly, I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you See you be brave I just wanna see you (yeah) I just wanna see you (oh o) I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you

I have a friend who is discouraged, this song is really inspiring to her. After hearing this song she has been more social. I personally think this song is away to show people who feel alone, and wrong that their not the only ones.

I'd say your words to my husband of 30 years but he wouldn't hear me. He wants to do counseling - again - like the 10+ other times helped. NOT! We just need to get a divorce and move on. We've already wasted 30 years. I don't want to waste any more. It's over. It's BEEN over. I don't even care anymore.
