Also the musical is based on a film called Waitress, that Adrienne Shelley wrote, directed and co-starred in. The lyrics in this song are based on a conversation between Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion in the movie, which is quite funny and sweet. It's a brilliant film, which is likely one of the reasons Sara chose to turn it into a musical. It was also the last film Adrienne Shelley acted in, and the second to last she wrote. Her actual last film was Serious Moonlight, which her husband produced and her co-star from Waitress, Cheryl Hines, directed after she was killed. I adored much of Shelley's work, in particular Waitress and Serious Moonlight. So I highly recommend seeing both flicks. She was a very unique voice and it makes me feel better about losing her so young, to know that her voice is living on in new and remarkable forms that she would probably be over the moon about.

Being a cellist myself, it's great seeing cello used more, especially in songs with famous pop stars. the cello has such a beautiful sound, a sound that I think a lot look for and could use in their music but never imagine it could be from a cello. it's such a versatile instrument, it can make so many sounds but the pure, natural sound of a cello being played passionately is just like nothing else....

He was much better than I expected when I saw him with Betsy in late December. I have seen three Pomatter's at this point and his is definitely the least polished, but that is not necessarily a complaint as the performance was quite enjoyable, and he covered very well when the prescription went off stage into the audience. Oddly, I would say that the scene featured in this song is his weakest scene, as the was very sweet and believable. This scene falls flat for me with him though, not sure why. The three I have seen are Jason Mraz with Betsy Wolfe, Chris Diamontopoulos with Sara Bareilles, and Bryan Frenkhart with Desi Oakley. Apologies on any spelling issues.
