Whoever recorded and mixed this gets a gold star. So perfectly balanced and blended. You can hear each one of their voices and instruments like a flock of birds all around you on a summer morning. Perfect.

It is beautiful, no doubt, but surely the poetry is as important as the artistry of the musicians - clear diction not something encouraged in upbringing?

Have to disagree slightly. When Aiofe sings full voice it is a bit too bright. Great on the breathy parts though. That’s not a cheap mike on her either. Otherwise great to hear them in this setting rather than the many live hall shows I’ve heard. Best is still the NPR tiny desk concert, sound wise anyway. Talent always shines through.

Not just bluegrass in my opinion, although that is certainly their main focus, these girls are the best thing to happen to music in general in the last several years.Saw them a week ago in Connecticut and have listened to nothing else since. This song in particular embodies all that is special about them. I especially love the effortless subtle brilliance of Sarah's banjo playing, she is a force of nature on anything with strings.

Dolly, Linda and Emmylou have amazing voice, and I can always tell which lady sings which part. Lovely as they sound, they do not have the blend that these three women do. I can't tell who is singing high, middle or low, and they change it up all of the time. Superb!

@@kathrynwebster6307 I agree. I like this chemistry more. Greater than the sum of the parts. This is like CSNY magic. Not that Trio aren't fabulous together and moreso backing up others or singing themselves.

I saw and heard Sarah Jarosz for the very first time last night at Garrison Keillor's America the Beautiful tour in Providence, Rhode Island. I am a "folkie" from the 60's, Sang at coffee houses in Boston, Providence and Newport and this amazing young woman has reignited my love of music pure and simple! I love all the women folk singers of the 60's and most recently Allison Kraus, Ricky lee Jones, etc., but this woman's voice, songwriting and musicianship completely blew me away!!! I am buying her cd's and hope she will be appearing locally here in New England soon! Thank you Garrison Keillor. It would have been a downright shame if I died without seeing and hearing this beautiful young woman's voice!

Probably the most painful song I care to put myself through. I lost the woman of my dreams about a year ago, and the line "left me in my tears to drown" is especially relatable. I'm not really sure why I like this song, all I can do is cry to it, but for whatever reason, I like it, and this rendition is beautiful, capturing all the emotions of the lyrics.

Artists become artists after listening to the music that we all love, music from artists they grew up with. And so the art is handed down from generation to generation and never dies. You just have to look for that river bank, and see it’s all flowing where it needs to go. It never dries up.

My baby's gone and I don't know why She let out this morning Like a rusty shot in a hollow sky Left me without warning Sooner than the dogs could bark And faster than the sun rose Down to the banks in an old mule car She took a flatboat across the shallow [Chorus:] Left me in my tears to drown She left a baby daughter Now the water's wide and deep and brown She's crossing muddy waters Tobacco standing in the fields Be rotten come November And a bitter heart will not reveal A spring that love remembers When that sweet brown girl of mine Her black eyes are ravens We broke the bread and drank the wine From a jug that she'd been saving [Chorus] Left me in my tears to drown She left a baby daughter Now the water's wide and deep and brown She's crossing muddy waters Baby's crying and the daylight's gone That big oak tree is groaning In rush of wind and river of song I can hear my true love moaning Crying for her baby child And crying for her husband And crying for that river's wild To take her from her loved ones [Chorus 2x] Left me in my tears to drown She left a baby daughter Now the water's wide and deep and brown She's crossing muddy waters

TheParatuner on their own they are great musicians but they really have something special here. I saw Sarah J with the Milk Carton Kids and that was great but these 3 together need to do an album. And I love how a lot of these young musicians graduate from of some of the best music conservatories in the US. :) Sarah Jarosz is an amazing mandolin and banjo musician ....

watkins voice is super sexy, jarosz is most soulful and aoife always sounds like a singing spirit or ghost, all so incredible expecially together, music is ecstacy,

Watkins voice made me fall in love, but Jarosz... She is fucking phenomenal.. my favorite artist, although I have an equal love to Aoife's work with Crooked Still. I can't pick a favorite!
