This is such a good version of this song! I don’t care much for the studio version, it sounds too “industrial”, and seeing it performed live for the Mirrorball concert had me doubting it could ever really work in a live setting. But this stripped down arrangement fits it so well! Makes me wish there was a “Freedom Session” record for the Surfacing tracks, I’d love to hear what the early studio versions of those sounded like.

OH thank you! Finally, 30 years later I knew what the song was about... with lines like "and you just walked away," it's always been a mystery - especially my painful, almost hyper-empathic response I had the first & every time I heard it - to the point that despite it being my fav Sarah song, I had to actively avoid for a bit. So yeah a big lug on the inside, and big heart on his sleeve teddy bear on the inside,, but always a complete smart ass. :P:

Who is comparing them? And why? Both ladies are emotive powerhouses, and yet very different in style, Gritty bluesy with a R&B thump vs. ethereal, raw, from a new wave origin, feel. There is no competition; I guarantee Adele and Sarah don't feel it. So like say "Rolling in the Deep" vs 'Building a Mystery'? or "I Love You' vs, "Hello? that's what you conjure up, John? Is there a mud-wrestling fight thrown in there?
