He won or lost on the merits of his message the way it should be. Also He put Country above Party when needed and loyal when he could be but always put Country first. Even when he had problems with the s&l scandal he dealt with it with dignity not by attacking and disparaging Investigators and then went after corruption afterwards. He Was a great war hero, tortured in the Hanoi Hilton for five Years he refused to be let go ahead of people that had been there longer, he bared the scars of that torture for the rest of his life. And yet he decided to serve His country until his dying breath. That is a True American Hero and Patriot! Thoughts and Prayers and Love to his Friends Wife Children and extended Family. @The Snow Nigro It set the precedent for anti-intellectual populists with no leadership skills, to enter public office.
@Ngamotu834 жыл бұрын
@The Snow Nigro Oh please. That anti-elitism goes against academia too. Trump ran by claiming that he alone could fix the United States, and he has certainly shown a huge disdain for anyone smarter than him as part of that agenda. And then there's the fact he ran his campaign by appealing to the stupidity in people. He literally said that he loves the poorly educated. The very fact he touts himself as a rich man with connections and membership in a party hierarchy means that the real target of his anti-elitism is the experts; the intelligent and educated classes. If you don't believe me just look to who he has appointed to his government while also noticing who he has forced out.
@Ngamotu834 жыл бұрын
@The Snow Nigro What utter garbage. If Trump ran on opposing the elites and giving Americans what they wanted, then why did only 25 percent of all eligible voters cast a vote for him? If he really was running on a campaign of flipping off the political "elite" and giving Americans what they really wanted, then surely more people would have voted for him. The truth is he received votes only from those stupid enough to believe his policies were any good, despite better informed people knowing his ideas would never work. The fact is his entire campaign was based on unintelligent ideas and hoping the people were lacking the intellect to see through his lies. More importantly though, Trump's campaign of racist anti-immigration and opposing the political classes was all just dog whistle politics. Because while he has continued his racist policies against immigration, he has not opposed the political class he ran against. In case you haven't noticed he's currently in bed with them, to the point he has essentially made himself into Mitch McConnell's bitch. And on top of that, when you look at Trump's cabinet it is full of exactly the sorts of people who for decades have lobbied politicians for favours. Do you really think the likes of Steve Mnuchin and Betsy DeVos are at all doing anything to make life better for the average American? Do you really think they're trying to give Americans what they really want? It's worth pointing out that often governments have to ignore some of the things their people want. Because there are times when the people want things that are either impractical, unfeasible, or go against what the best evidence says is necessary. For example, when the people want the economy to reopen during a pandemic, then the government must ignore them because the science says reopening the economy will only make the pandemic worse. So yeah, sometimes the government has to ignore the people, and it's usually when what the people want are not in their own best interests. As for your slander of academia, if you really believe that then you better eschew all technology and go live in a fucking cave. Because it's academia that has given you the comfortable life you live. If not for physicists, and biologists, social scientists, etc, the life you have now would not be possible, nor would this conversation for that matter. The truth is you don't need contacts to get into academia, you just need to obtain an education and practice good science, the latter of which James Watson stopped doing, which is why he was forced into retirement. His comments are more than controversial, they are not supported by science. He received the exact same treatment that Andrew Wakefield received, and for the exact same reason: disregarding good scientific practice and promoting pseudoscientific quackery. One last thing, of course Trump did not go against the political class despite campaigning on that, because not even he's immune to the corrupting forces of American politics. The moment he set foot in Washington D.C. he was always going come under the influence of corporate lobbyist and do their bidding. That and his own politics wasn't exactly that far from where the GOP was in 2015 anyway. The racism and duplicity of his campaign was basically par for the course with the Republican Party.

Got her daughter, Bristol, a spot on "Dancing with the Stars"! Her daughter, a Star? Then all the stories of the kind of stuff low class people do. ( Drunken fights, ect.) I think the bar was really low in Alaska back when. I think she started out as a Weather & Sports girl on local TV, and in the tradition of Ronnie Reagan used a little celebrity status to get into politics. a death is a sad thing but it is very funny how the living go about it in America compare to the caribbean.where I am from..no one gets invited to a funeral in Jamaica where I am from..a funeral is open to all who wish to attend...

I don't think the McCains would want Sarah Palin at John's funeral, mostly because it would become about her. That being said though, the comments all state that picking Palin was McCain's biggest mistake...so how is that HER fault? I mean, McCain made the mistake...she did exactly what she was expected to do, said everything she was expected to say, any over the top craziness is on him, not her. Blaming Sarah when HE chose her...and uninviting her to the funeral as a result IS petty. So Trump isn't the only one here who is acting like a spoiled brat. I liked and respected John McCain, but this PUBLIC disinvite is childish. And ALL the tributes to John McCain's memory, this really undermines everything people are saying about McCain, with regard to him being fallible, forgiving, and "The bigger Man." Okay, you don't want Sarah Palin there, so take care of it quietly, say SHE has a reason for not wanting to go, because the media would turn it into a circus or something. Don't publicly announce to the world that Palin is not welcome. If John McCain was the bigger man most of the time...this time he is not.

I was in 6th grade when Palin and McCain ran for president. I wasn’t quite old enough to understand what was going on, and all I knew was that I was supposed to like them. As a 23 year old man I can look back and realize that Sarah palin was Tina Fey’s impression of her. I can’t believe how childish politics are, I always thought it was adult business.

Sarah Palin may have brought energy to the campaign, but it took all the energy out of John McCain. Campaigning side by side with Palin, made McCain hyper aware of the horrid downturn of the Republican Party. Watch his concession speech and see the tremendous relief he displayed when he knew he had lost.

I don't think they were trying to insult her. I think they were just concerned about how she would conduct herself and/or what she would say. Some people just don't take a backseat to anyone or anything, not even the solemnity and decorum of a funeral.

He goes out as a vindictive, unforgiving and petty human being. You'd think he'd have had some time to reflect on his life and toss all the bitterness out in favor of humility, grace and forgiveness. Instead, he schemed to the end to "punish" the people he deemed unworthy to mourn him, like he was deciding on the invitation list for some kind of Washington cocktail party where everybody wants to go to see and be seen. There is one similarity to those parties, however. In one month, nobody will even remember it. I'm not sure which was a bigger mistake - suspending his campaign to try to look presidential, and looking ineffective instead, or picking Palin. Either way, they were both his mistakes, not anybody else's.

Having regrets over picking Sarah Palin would have been one of many poor decisions made by John McCain. The only reason he did as well as he did was because he picked Sarah Palin. Many staunch Republicans such as myself would not have voted for McCain oh, that we voted for Sarah. Had he selected Joe Lieberman, he would have picked up many independent and Democrat votes, but lost many Republicans. I think the results would have been worse.

I think it's a shame he decided to humiliate her publicly by denying an invite to his funeral. He chose her as his running mate, he lead the ship that crashed and sunk, he wouldn't even know Sarah Palin if he hadn't of asked her on to the ticket. It doesn't feel unreasonable that when you bring someone else into your life so publicly, that they not be so publicly shunned from your funeral.

What a petty and vindictive little man. And to do this to someone who supported and stood by him. After all it was McCain who chose Palin as running mate, not the other way around. And this is the best he can bring himself to do?

Let's not forget this and McCain's internal faults (or evils): In 1983, McCain was elected to lead the incoming group of Republican representatives, and was assigned to the House Committee on Interior Affairs. Also that year, he opposed creation of a federal Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but FINALLY admitted approval in 2008. Only because he ran for the office of President of the USA against former president Obama. Otherwise McCain would of said forget Martin Luther King he does not deserve it (as he continues to believe in the after-life). It took John McCain 25 years to approve Martin Luther King Jr, birthday as a holiday in the state of Arizona. The USA only federal Afro-American holiday.
